"Oral history in the family said that a man named George Rivers brought Pearl (from Tenn?) to live with Henrietta (her grandmother ?) in Highland, CA circa 1882, because there was no one to take care of Pearl." They have not been able to verify this story.

There is some information that suggest that Pearl's mother may have been named Laura.
