Stuart Usher
has sent me details of two new books that are to be published. You can find more
information about them here.
A book was
published in 1956 by
Col.
C. M. Usher entitled "A
History of the Usher Family in Scotland" with many details of this
branch, although there seem to be some discrepancies in the tree. The book can
be downloaded from this site in MS Word
97/2000 format or in Adobe PDF
format. The file is a self extracting archive - just start the .exe file and you
will be asked where to unpack the file to. Unpack the file and then open it.
There is also a copy of the original book at the California State Library. CSL
Sutro CS479.U8 1956.
John
Gifford - Memories and Letters, edited by his sister Mary Raleigh. London, 1896.
This file is in Adobe PDF format and is quite large - about 10MB. Right click on
this link and select "Save As"
George
Tancred published a book entitled "Rulewater and its People" describing the
area. Here are excerpts that pertain to the Usher family.

H. E.
Chetwynd STAPYLTON was an avid genealogist and author. He is related to me via
the wife of William Neville Usher, my gg-Grandfather. He wrote 3 books that I
know of :
Chronicles of the Yorkshire Family of Stapleton (1884)
The Stapletons of Yorkshire, being the history of an English family from very
early times (1892)
The Chetwynds of Ingestre (1892)
and a booklet
Two Under-Secretaries (cir 1891)
detailing George HAMMOND, and Baron Edmund HAMMOND of Kirkella, the authors
grandfather and uncle and consequently my 5g-grandfather and 4g-grand
uncle. This can also be downloaded in
MS Word 97/2000
format or in
Adobe PDF format.
