This would fit with Janet being "in the parish of Bowden" when she married John Usher (per Melrose parish registers) but I have not been able to verify her parentage beyond that. Janet married John USHER of Toftfield, son of James USHER and Isabella MERCER, on 20 Jul 1745 in Melrose, Roxburghshire.1 2 (John USHER of Toftfield was christened on 12 Mar 1709/10 in Melrose, Roxburghshire 7 and died on 20 Aug 1777 at Toftfield, Darnick, Roxburghshire 9.)
