The first advertisement in The Scotsman appeared on Wed., 30th March 1836. At some point he entered into a partnership with David Greig which was subsequently dissolved in a notice placed in The Scotsman on Wed., 8th February 1837.

This Brewery, (the most ancient in Edinburgh), has for two centuries, (as is supposed from the superior quality of its water), been celebrated for Fine Ales. The Ales now brewed in it are made from the best malt and finest quality of hops.
