Thomas USHER
The Services of Heirs record confirms Thomas as the uncle of John Usher of Toftfield, though the parish registers reveal that he was a half-uncle, not the son of Isabella Mercer as the 1956 Usher book chart believes.
• He was employed as a Portioner in Darnick, Roxburghshire. 6 Thomas married Jean MEIN, daughter of Andrew MEIN and Janet ATCHISON, on 13 Jan 1776 in Melrose, Roxburghshire.2 (Jean MEIN was christened on 20 Mar 1747/48 in Melrose, Roxburghshire and died in may / june 1812.)
