Australia

Greg Clitheroe wrote to me saying:

I have only Robert Arthur USHER born 15 Jan 1930 in Toowomba, Queensland, Australia. He married my mother's cousin.

Katarina, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia writes:

I am searching for any information about Thomas USHER and Margaret McCLURE. They married in 1845 apparently in London then moved to Australia (Victoria).

Their children include:

Sarah Ann (C. 1846);
Adam (C. 1849 - C. 1851);
Mary (1851);
Thomas (C. 1853 - C. 1924);
James (C. 1856 - C. 1856);
David (C. 1857 - C. 1934);
Elizabeth Margaret Emphrey (C. 1861).

Mary Usher married Thomas LORD (1874) and her sister Elizabeth Margaret Emphrey married Thomas LORD's Brother James LORD in (C. 1880).

The Usher and Lord families lived in Warrnambool and Geelong (Victoria, Australia).

I have been unable to find shipping records for the Ushers when they came to Australia. The Victorian Electoral Rolls for 1856 lists the Ushers as JABEZ; JOHN; RICHARD; THOMAS; TIMOTHY; WILLIAM (at Heidelberg); WILLIAM (at Williamstown); WILLIAM (at Amherst) and WILLIAM (at Whitehose Reef).

I would like to know if any of the Ushers on the electoral roll (1856) are related to my Ushers.

I still do not know where the family originated from, however, I do know that Margaret McCLURE came from Antrim in Ireland.

Robert Usher (Dublin) to Australia

Robert Usher was born in Dublin abt 1839. His parents were William Usher and Mary Ana(?) Holliday. Robert Usher and Abigail Lowe were married at Smythsdale, Victoria, Australia. Robert Usher was a policeman in Australia.

new Dr John USSHER - Amelia USSHER

I am the great-great-great granddaughter of Amelia PASLEY (nee USSHER) who I understand from Jemma was the daughter of Dr John USSHER and ultimately descended from Arland USSHER. I have been working on my main lines and haven't done a lot of research on this family but have a little information.

James USHER is listed here in the names of 3217 men, women and children who were issued with rations in Sydney on Saturday September 8, 1821.

It is part of a database which was compiled from the NOMINAL LIST OF ALL PERSONS VICTUALLED FROM HIS MAJESTYS MAGAZINES UNDER CHARGE OF DEPUTY COMMISSARY GENERAL WEMYSS. This victualling list is in the Colonial Secretary's Papers, location 4/5781, pages 55 - 122, and is on microfilm at the Archives Office of NSW.

Also John USHER and James USHER are detailed on this page.

TreeFAMILY TREE build 14 January 2001

Jeff Long has also sent me details of his research, and I have posted the tree here. Basically it goes under the name of Descendents of Job USHER; at least it does until he can get further back :-) !!!
