There have been several new features added recently to the web site.

As you may have noticed the front of the website has changed a little, and I hope to be developing this more over the coming months. I would like to make the site a little more interactive and more "living".

Erica Kylander-Clark wrote to confirm that the article about Scholly Usher refers to Saco, Maine, and hence the article has now been placed on that page. Thank you Erica for sending me the article so that I could place it on the web site.

01 Jul. 2001
Added an article supplied by Erica Kylander-Clark. It is an excerpt from her gr-gr-gr-grandfather's autobiography that mentions Scholly Usher from Saco. Unfortunately there are several Saco's in the United States, and it is not clear from which Scholly came, although I would presume Saco, California. Hence I have placed the link to this story on the USA General page until more information can be found.

Also added "The Great Famine, Birr and District" - an article written by Margaret Hogan for Gwen and Denver Knowles, describing The Great Famine in Ireland and it's effect on Birr. The Ushers of Birr

No update on-line for the last month, mainly because I have been painstakingly re-editing all the web pages and cleaning up a lot of bits and pieces that needed seeing to. One of the major differences is that you will see all the tables have either a green or a black table header. This signifies where the information has come from. Green is a freely accessible web site and black a pay web site. If you experience any problems with viewing the web site then please let me know.

I have also made several cosmetic changes to the trees that are on-line, and have also added more to the The Usher Family of Scotland tree. Another coat of arms "variant" has been added to the The Usher Armory. Other additions include: Immigrants from the British Isles & Germany 1861-91, Marysborough, Queensland, Australia and a page for New Zealand.

In the U.S. the following additions have been made:
Illinois Marriages, 1851-1900

A big hello to Debbie Kirsch who has contacted me regarding Usshers who have emigrated from Ireland to New York and then to New Jersey. I have been unable to help her so far, but maybe someone else knows something. Her details can be found on the New Jersey page. I have also update Florida with an obituary from the The Palm Beach Post and have added an obituary to the Kansas page.

18 Feb 2001
I have updated the tree for The Usher Family of Scotland with details of the Scotland-Canada, Usher-Renwick connection. Also added some source details to many individuals. I have also been looking at DNA testing some more. A topic that has cropped up is DNA and family characteristics / resemblances.

I have put up a page to take a survey. On it are pictures of me and my brother and various Usher ancestors. What I would like to know is : "Who do you think I resemble closest and who does my brother resemble closest ?". If you could drop me a line with any thoughts I'd appreciate it. The page can be found at http://members.magnet.at/marku/resemblance2.htm

Just a quick correction to the The Ushers of Antrim page. Removed the republican flag from the page as Antrim is of course in Northern Ireland. I am deeply sorry for any offence I May have unwittingly caused.
