Blackmon Family History
John Blackmon was one of three brothers who came from Edgefield District
of South Carolina and later moved to Alabama and then to Mississippi. The 3
brothers had run away from their stepfather in North Carolina and headed for
Mississippi. They were:

John was born in South Carolina on 12/22/1812 and married Rebecca
Green on 12/22/1840 and had the following Children:

- Solomon Franklin Blackmon was born in Alabama on March 15, 1843.
Solomon Franklin Blackmon was born in Alabama on March 15, 1843. His parents
were John and Rebecca Blackman of South Carolina and Alabama Respectively.
They moved from Alabama around 1850 to Newton County, Miss. Solomon enlisted
in the Confederate Army in 1862 at nearby Enterprise, Mississippi. (See
Solomon's Civil War History.) Soon after the war's end, Solomon married
Saphronia Abagail Tubbs on December 14, 1865 and they had the following
children:

- Rebecca Jane "Jenny" Blackmon b. 05/06/1875 in Miss. married Mr. Stroud

Around the year 1887, Solomon's wife, Saphronia Abagail Blackmon passed
away at the age of 36. Solomon moved to Arkansas and met Henryetta E.
Camp and they were married on February 28, 1891 in Grant County. Here
they had Four children :

In 1895 they moved to England, Lonoke Co., Arkansas. The only child
belonging to Saphronia Abagail at this time was her youngest child,
Saphronia Bell. The others were grown up by this time. Solomon moved back to
Sheridan sometime after 1900 where Saphronia Bell was married to Winter
Stuckey in 1904 in Grant County. Solomon died in June 30, 1910 at the age of 67
and was buried in the New Hope Cemetery near Sheridan,
Arkansas. Saphronia was born February 15, 1851 and died June 26, 1888 at the
age of 37 and is buried beside Solomon in New Hope Cemetary.
