The Tempered Wind The life Story of Thisbe Read Hanks. Written by her son, Sydney Alvarus Hanks. Wonderful book. This book can be seen on http://hanksplace.net/library/ A collection of histories, books, documents and more digitized and freely available for all to enjoy.
Sherry Smith sent these corrections to the information in this book.
1. Samuel Milford boarded the ship Horizon with the family rather staying behind in England (as stated in Tempered Wind). True and faithful to the church.
2. Clara Read was a loving daughter. She did not stay in England (as stated in Tempered Wind). She emigrated to Sydney Australia. She married William Greenley in Sidney, bore two daughters. One daughter bore 11 children. William Greenley was not born in Warwickshire England. He worked there as a stone mason but was born in Ludlow Shropshire England.
3. The real marriage date of John Snell and Clara Read is 22 Jun 1881 (written in Clara's bible).
4. Samuel George did not marry the Martha that he boarded with in Iowa. Martha Munroe is a different person than the Iowa woman.
5. Samuel adopted a daughter with Martha Munroe by the name of Josephine Eayrs. She died as a two year old and is buried on top of her birth mother, Sophia Eayrs.
6. Samuel raised Laura Read with Laura Gibbs from birth. Laura Read is biologicial the granddaughter of Laura Gibbs. Laura was born out of wedlock to Catherine Beach. Samuel raised her as his own and was a loving father. Laura Read Stephens became a nurse and was a member of the Tabernacle Choir. She contributed heavily to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

A Legacy of Allens take their Action The history of Paul Knowlton and Ella Baker Allen. Compiled by Lyle Royce Allen and Debra Allen Young
Royce is a great grandson of Ephraim and Thisbe Hanks through their daughter Thisbe and Samuel Allen. Debra is Royce's daughter. The book is a history of Royce's parents Paul Knowlton and Ella Baker Allen. It contains a brief history of Ephraim and Thisbe Hanks.
There is a book I have a copy of it in my possession named:
Scouting For The Mormons on the Great Frontier
By Sidney Alvarus Hanks and Ephraim K. Hanks
This is written in the Preface of this book:
"Ephraim Knowlton Hanks did not keep a diary, but in the sunset of his life took time out to tell the story to two different scribes who recorded the experiences, only to have both manuscripts mysteriously disappear. We have had to depend on the information handed down by his own children and the writings of men who rode and lived with him."
"Some of these experiences seem unbelievable even to the authors, but eye-witnesses of unquestionable character have written and testified to their truthfulness. When two or three men tell the same story, we are convinced to write these experiences as they have been written."
Sidney Alvarus Hanks is a son of Ephraim K. Hanks
This is a fun book to read and has a lot of interesting stories in it.
