Alphabetical Listing of those buried in the
Old Scotch Cemetery in Ryegate,
Caledonia County, Vermont, USA

Located about a mile south of the village of Ryegate Corner, on the Bayley-Hazen Road, this was Ryegate's 1st cemetery.   The location was selected when the main "Town Center" was expected to be near there, in accordance with the original town charter.

It was abandoned when the town purchased the burying place now known as the Blue Mountain Cemetery in 1801 or so. Most marked graves were moved; but, the dust of many early settlers remains here, their exact locations unknown as there have been no markers there since before 1900.

Long neglected and disappearing into the spreading forest, four granite posts were set at the corners ca. 2001.

In the 1800s Nancy Brock prepared a list of names from various records then existent.

Dates and places listed here are per the 1913 History of Ryegate.
