Joseph served briefly in the Revolutionary War as a sergeant in Colonel Benjamin Bellows Regiment of Militia in the state of New Hampshire. Bellows was sent to reinforce the northern Continental Army at Ticonderoga, May 7, 1777. The DAR notes Joseph was a Sgt. CS PS & served in NH. (CS- Civil Service & PS-Political Service).

Prior to 1784- Joseph established a ferry across the CT river to Claremont that was taken over by Oliver Ashley in 1784. He also built a toll road from Lyman's tavern to the river.

bullet  Research Notes:

Joseph's place of birth has not been verified, but since most of his siblings were born in Glastonbury, it seems likely that he too was born there.
Joseph's brother George was a successful land speculator in Claremont, NH across the river from Weathersfield, VT and is better documented than Joseph. Both are noted in the book by John Hurd, "Weathersfield Century One"
There were still Hubbard's in Windsor county in 1810, but no Joseph Hubbard family.
In the local history records, Joseph was, on occasion, referred to as "Reverend".
His headstone in the Salisbury cemetery was confirmed by Tom Sinton in the winter of 2003/2004.

This lineage, from Joseph back to Richard Hubbard (1590-1661 ), was taken from the book : "One Thousand Years of Hubbard History 866 to 1895" compiled by Edward Warren Day.
