Hamil C.M. October 26, 1844 May 5, 1928 CSA
(I believe the name was intended to be Cormellus Marcellus for the two opposing generals during the 2nd Punic war- zhm)

From Betty Hamil Book:
C.M. was born October 26, 1844 in Griffin (Pike County) Georgia. He, too served in the civil war. His service records were lost, but he stated that he served two years and thirty days in Co. "A", 6th Alabama Calvary .
C. M. came to Kaufman County with his family in 1867. I quote from a statement that Joel Wharton sent me on his grandfather. "C.M. Hamil was in his twenty first year when he accompanied his parents to the Lone Star State. He took a fancy to the business of cattle raising, and as soon as he could manage to do so, secured a few cattle of his own. The manner in which he procured his first animal was sufficiently unique to warrant its relation here. He was attending a public sale and purchased a horse, which was sold for something less than its value, and he afterwards traded the horse for three clocks, and one of the clocks for a cow, afterwards getting three heifer yearlings in exchange for a second clock. To this meager nucleus of a herd he added from time to time, working for wages for different parties and in vesting his earnings in cattle, until in 1883, he found himself the owner of 100 head .
In the summer of the year just mentioned, Mr. Hamil moved to Stephens County, and settled on the old George Phillips' ranch, where he has been located ever since. He has been carrying a good bunch of stock cattle all the time, and also dealing in steers, and, at the present time, his herd comprises about 300 head, the majority of them highly graded with Durham strains. He has a good ranch of 1,500 acres, some 150 of which are in cultivation, his farming operations being on an extensive scale. He has a neat and comfortable home, and can justly be said to be in prosperous circumstances .
Mr. Hamil, has had no better opportunities in life than any other young man who started in life in Texas during the years immediately following the war, and the success that he has secured has been honestly earned by industry and business push. He is a fair type of the progressive cattlemen, and his example goes to prove that a man possessed of proper qualifications and ability can succeed in t he business of stock growing unassisted by any great amount of capital" .
C. M. was married three times, and had twelve children. He lived for along time on the Eliasville road, about four miles north of Caddo. The house very imposing and spacious. Evidently this is where he first started in the cattle business and homesteaded 160 acres when he first began.
C. M. died May 5, 1928 after a long illness. He is buried in the Caddo cemetery.
C. M. first married Martha McPeters in Kaufman County, November 26, 1868. Martha was born October 20, 1846, died June 28, 1880. She is buried in the Warsaw Cemetery near Lake Tawakoni in Kaufman County. The cemetery was once a large one but now it is abandoned with many of the stones down and broken. C.M. and Martha probably lived in this vicinity.
