William Leroy settled in Wilkinson County, Mississippi about 1820 and was a planter/farmer there, buying and selling land between 1835 and January 1848. He then joined the family migration to Natchitoches/Red River Parish, Louisiana in the late 1840's.
William L. served in the war of 1812. He served added tours of duty beyond his participation in the Creek War, his last was from October 1, 1814 to April 22, 1815. He was discharged from Mobile, Alabama after 1815 Battle of New Orleans (General Jackson commanding)
He was referred to in letters of Jarrett and Mary E Law as Uncle Billie.
1840- There was also a James B Baird of a similar age in Wilkinson Co.
In 1870, three parcels of land in TSP 12N, R11 were seized by the state for non-payment of taxes (1867-69). C. Chaplin was the Sr. Agent of W L Baird. The parcels were sold at auction and they were purchased by Mary Ann Law (wife of W L Baird) for $36 each. W L would have been 73 yrs old at this time. Apparently he was not present at the proceedings.
