Research Notes:
The primary source for the line was Linda Giles RootsWeb database - lgiles3240 Henry Law, the fifth son of George and Ann Lord law was born about 1790 in what became the Sumter District of South Carolina and died in 1834 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. He married M. Eleanor Murphy about 1812 in South Carolina. He is first mentioned in public record on November 3, 1817 as a buyer of an auction for the estate of Angus McKay in the Sumter District. On January 20, 1821 he bought 191 acres of land from either his brother Isaiah or Uncle Isaiah Law. This land was on Cowpen Swamp in the Sumter District, and was part of the grant originally made to Wm. Caudel in 1786. The transaction was witnessed by James Law and Wm. R. Lenoir. Recorded in Deed Book F, page 509. On December 1828 he sold the 191 acres to a man named Bradford. He apparently relocated at that time to the eastern part of the county but no records has been found for that move.
On September 16, 1828 a deed was made by Arthur Smith for the establishment of a Methodist Church at Tabernacle Camp Ground on Lynches River near Lynchburg, Sumter County, and Henry Law, George Law and William Law were listed as trustees. Sometime after January 1831, Henry law moved to Wilkinson County, Mississippi where he bought 300 acres of land from Lewis Cason. The land was located in the "Macedonia Community" near Centreville (On a current map of Wilkinson County Centreville straddles the east county line into Amite County. Macedonia Road runs straight north out of Centerville and it is on the Wilkinson County side of the county line.) Henry apparently died in early 1834. On February 10, 1834, Mrs. Nellie (M. Eleanor) Law and A. W. Baird applied for Letters of Administration in the Wilkinson County Probate Court with respect to the estate of Henry Law. The letters were granted. In the division of the property of Henry's estate the following heirs participated: Mrs. law, Harvey M. law, Frances Law and minors Henry Law, Jr., Margaret Law, Jarret law and Mary Ann Law. Two children William and Agnes, predeceased their father ca 1812 when Henry was 22, he married M. Eleanor MURPHY, in South Carolina. Born ca 1790 in Sumter District, SC. M. Eleanor died in Wilkinson County, Mississippi on 7 Aug 1842; she was 52.
A "William L. Cason of Wilkinson County" received two land patents dated April 7, 1825 from the U.S. Government covering the west 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of section 14, township 2, range 1 in the district west of the Pearl River, and the east 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of section 15, township 2, range 2, etc; these are adjoining 80 acre parcels; were these parcels part of the 300 acres acquired by Henry Law?) 1
