The obituary of his youngest child, Elizabeth Hunter Hayne, noted that she was born 1827 in Ireland and that she was orphaned at the age of 4 (1831). William's death date is based on this data.

William married Elizabeth WHITE on 3 Jun 1815 in Dublin, Ireland. (Elizabeth WHITE was born about 1789 in Ireland and died on 7 Jun 1829 in Abbeville District, SC ^{1 2}.)
