The surname Hansor may also be spelled as Handsor, Hanzor, Hanzer,
Hanger and Hansley. The name Hansor is said to be of German origin
(Weslager).
It is speculated that Aminadab Hansor was the illegitimate son of
Mary Vincent, wife of John Oakey, and a family servant of African
descent named Aminadab "Haw."
Descendants of the Oakeys and Hansors were consistently identified as
"mulatto" in the eighteenth century church and civil records of
Delaware. They are thought to be part of the remnant population of
the Nanticoke and Lenni-Lanapi tribes of the community called
"Mitsawokett" on the the St. Jones River in Kent County, DE. Another
nearby community, comprised of descendants of Native Americans,
Africans (free and slave) and European colonists, was called the
Cheswold Enclave. They were often identified as a tri-racial group
called the Delaware Moors.

It has been speculated that William Hansor was not the father of
Elizabeth and Jemima, but his brother Nehemiah. However, the Kent
County Orphan Records for 1788 seem to indicate that William was the
father of Elizabeth, who married Benjamin Durham. Nehemiah may also
have had a daughter named Jemima, born after his father's will was
written. The will mentions granddaughters Elizabeth and Jemima.
