James Philip Eagle Jr. was the 16th Governor of Arkansas, 1889 to
1893. He served the Confederacy during the American Civil War,
enlisting with the Fifth Arkansas Mounted Regiment in 1861, then was
transferred to the Second Arkansas Mounted Riflemen (which became
part of the First Consolidated Arkansas Mounted Rifles. He was taken
prisoner and released in May 1863, only to rejoin his old unit and
become wounded in the Battle of Atlanta.
James and his wife Mary had no children.
