My Families

Jul 1998

What do you have here? A copy of Don Umberger's database from PAF 2.31 and what is about all you have. It is complete with the poor English, spelling and typing errors. While I try to be accurate and precise, you are going to find errors and the notes/citations meet no known standards.
     Details:
.REF: The person .REF is a place I store my outlines for the sources I used, since I do not start this storage area when I first started the database some sources will not be included. But it is a good place for you to check and see from what and where I found some of my data.
LDS fields: The LDS fields "Sealing to parents" and temple has no connection or meaning to the LDS Church. I use the field "Sealing to parents" to track the date of the last chance to any part of that person's record and the temple field for the year, this allows me to sort and possible track when a chance was made. As I made any change to personal info, notes, or marriage info I put the date into these fields. Again some records have no date in these fields because they have not been changed since I started using this date system.
Places: The place names like counties will vary, some times it will be current name, others will be the name of the county when the event take place. The same goes for other locations like churches, cemeteries etc. It varies by where I found the info.
Names: If I do not know a married female's maiden name, I leave the surname field blank. I use the spelling from the source be it a book or a person, so I would not change Eliza to Elizabeth, Charlie to Charles or Kettenring to Catron etc.
Families: In order to have some limit and some control I may not put complete families or all available info into my database, direct lines and people who tie into that line or people who may help identify these direct lines are included. The others will have a note telling where more info is available.
America/Also America: (America) in the title field, means that this is the first person or oldest if part of a family group coming to America to be born overseas in my direct line to come to America. If a son or daughter is in this same group and they are my direct line they will have (Also America) in their title field to show that they would born overseas. If an older person in that line like a parent or grandparent of this first person comes to America later, they will have (Also America) in their title field showing that they were born overseas but not the first of that line to come to America.

Enjoy and hope this will help you, use any that you can, check everything that you do use. Let me know of errors and please give me credit if you decide to use any of it.
