Handwritting Copy Books

On looking at records for our ancestors, people often comment on the neatness of the handwriting. This is the cover of a Copy book for my Great Uncle - James Greer. He was born in 1892, and so when he was writing in this book in 1907/1908 he would have been about 15 years old. He died later that year in a road accident.

A note on the back of the booklet reads:

"These little books will be found extremely useful by teachers working the New Programme. They contain a large amount of nicely graduated exercises for the pupils. As the price of the first two is only one penny each, and that for Standard V only three halfpence, there is no reason why the pupils should not each be supplied with copies. We do not see how pupils are to be kept usefully employed the entire day without the aid of such books" Irish Teacher's Journal.

In the book there are corrections marked - for my Great uncle he appeared to be slightly lax at making the cross of the "t" horizontal. And on each page a large number is written. (James Greer appeared to get between 7 to 10 for each page. Below is shown an example of one page. Each page is dated.
