    Ernest Wake Born, 2 June 1905. Baptised, 4 June 1905. Home address, 104 Carville Road, Newcastle on Tyne. Married, 21 August 1926, Elizabeth Mills., Parish of Greenside, Durham. Witness at wedding Harry Finay and Edward Mills. Address 84 Second Avenue, Heaton, Newcastle on Tyne. Lived 13 Adelphi Place, Heaton all of married life. Ernest (Ernie) and Elizabeth had three daughters.

    Parents, Ernest Wake and Nellie nee Watson.

    Occupations:- Aged about 14, Line boy for Trams, Bus Conductor, Bus Driver he worked for Newcastle Corporation. all his life except for military service during World War Two where he served with the Royal Corps of Transport places he served were North Africa, Cairo, Damascus, he has the Africa Star, France and Germany Star and the 1939-45 Star and Defence medals. He once told me that he arrived a Normandy after the D-day landings when the jetty's had been built for transport to unload from ships.

    Died, 21 November 1980.

    Former factory owner dies

    Mr Ernest Wake, a local business man in the leather trade for almost 40 years, died at his home in Grasmere crescent, Whitley Bay at the weekend. Aged 81 Mr. Wake leaves a widow, six sons and two daughters. After serving in France with the Northumberland Fusiliers during the 1914 – 18 war, he bought a shoe repairing factory in Whitley Bay. In 1939, he started a leather fancy goods shop in Park Avenue, A few years ago, he sold his shoe repair factory, but kept on the shop. Mr Wake had been in poor health for more than a year. A service was held at Whitley Bay Cemetery on Wednesday. Among those present was his brother 94-year-old Mr. James Wake from Sunderland.
