Ward Erwin Tyler Sr.
(1907 - 1988) 
Ward Erwin Tyler Sr. was born July 10, 1907 in Spokane, WA, and died August
19, 1988 in Stockton, CA. He married Genevieve Patricia Burke, July 02, 1931 in Stockton,
CA, daughter of James Burke
and Elizabeth Tumelty. She was born March 02, 1908 in Stockton,
CA, and died January 18, 1984 in Stockton,
CA.
Ward Tyler Sr moved with his family from Spokane to Gridley, CA. He
lived there an for undetermined time and then moved to Stockton,
CA. "Gramps"
only attended school through the eighth grade. He worked at a lot
of different jobs until he until he worked for a sporting goods store.
Gramps spent over 50 years in the sporting good business. During the 40s,
Gramps had the concession business (selling food and drinks) at the different places
in Stockton.
Saving his money he was able to open his own sporting good store in the late
40s. His store closed in 1969 and he continued working in
sporting goods even repairing baseball gloves until he passed away in 1988.
Gramps was one of the promoters of Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball
in Stockton and is
honored in the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame.
