Andrew added the letter "J" to his name to cut down on the confusion as to which Andrew he was. Malinda, his wife died from meningitis. Her doctor was Dr. White of Caute, Ok. He gave her a shot over her heart, killing her instantly.
Residence: 1875 to 1882 in Macoupin Co. Three years later, Doniphan Co., Kansas. Then back in Greene Co., Ill,. next to Andrew J's father's farm, on Washington Hicks farm. He leased his land to a Preacher for what he thought was a short time, but it was for a period of 99 years. In Nov. 1898, they were back in Payne, Ok. One year later they were in Custer Co., Ok. He went to Illinois, as his brothers and sisters said that he had cheated them on their father's estate. He either stayed in jail or with the jailer while there. They checked things out and they owed him a small amount of money. He went back to Ok., never to return to Illinois again. After 1902 he traded his farm for a hotel in Foss, Ok. The Grand Hotel. The next place was Canute, Ok., where his wife died. Next to Enid, Ok. His son, Henry went to Washington State and he followed with some of his family, James, Verne, Wiley, Chloe, and George. James, Chloe, and George stayed in Washington and Andrew J. came back to Canute, Ok.

Henry and his younger brother, Fred, farmed together until Feb 18, 1819 when Henry and his family moved to the Walker farm one mile west of Scottville. Gertrude had inherited this farm from her father. Cattle, hogs, sheep, and horses were raised on this farm. But horses were of special interest. Percheron horses became a source of power on the farm. A Percheron stallion was purchased and horses were raised for use on the farm and for sale.
An adjoining farm on 110 acres was purchased in 1925 for $135.00 per acre. The great depression of the 1930's hit everyone. Activities on the farm did not slow down but income did. Following the depression 40 acres more of good tillable land was purchased for $30.00 per acre which made a total of 370 acres including the Ruyle land.

Howard Allen Hettic, 79, formerly of South Roxana, died at 5:43 pm Sunday, March 19, 1995 at Alton Memorial Hospital, a son of the late Jaems Allen and Kathryn Ruyle Hettick. He was born Dec 28, 1915 in Scottville. He was a mechanic with Gloss Motors in Wood River for 30 years, retiring in 1964. He also retired after 15 years as a deputy sheriff with the Madison Co. Sheriff's Department. He and the former Nellie Elizabeth Mudd were married on Nov 14 1938 in St. Charles, Mo. She died Dec 7, 1992. Surviving are two daughters, Diana Lockwood of Springfield and Sheila Ventimiglia of Alton; two sons, Howard Ray Hettick of Godfrey and Tommy D. Hettick of Alton, nine grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and two brothers, Farbia Hettick of Edwardsville and Lyle Gene Hettick preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Gray Funeral Home today in Wood River, where services are at 1 pm Wed. The Rev. Bill Crank will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Coy Russel Hettick 74, died Thurs. , Jan 14, 1993 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill. A retired farmer, he was born in Scottville Aug. 8 1918 a son of the James Allen and Catheryn Ruyle Hettick. He married the former Mary Kathryn Boyer May 5, 1951. She died in 1991. Surviving are three brothers, Howard Hettick of South Roxana, Lyle Hettick of East Carondelet and Farbia Hettick of Edwardsville. A brother, Donald Eugene Hettick; and a sister, Amelia Hettick preceded him in death. Visitation was set for 6-9pm Fri at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Franklin, where services are at 2pm Sat. Burial is in Franklin Cem. Memorials may be made to the Waverly Rescue Squad of the Murrayville Woodson Emergency Medical Service.
