She was a strong Christian Woman

Dorthy and I
found each other on the Internet Early 2002. We
share information and stories on the Porters. She
is the closest family member in the Tree that
I've found via the Internet.
Hughlon
and Brewer were brother and sister.
Hughlon is Dorothy's Grandfather. Whereas Brewer
is my G Grandmother.
From
Dorothy about her Grandfather:
"Daddy Porter (Hulon) offered the same
prayer before every meal":
"Gracious
Father, accept our thanks for this food,
pardon our sins and bless us,
we beg for Christ's sake. Amen."

from the Karo Syrup Plant.
The following
information is told to me by my Aunt
Living Harding Moore referred here in
this section as Living.
Brewer aka Mamaw told Living the
following when Living was a child.
At the time of Brewer Elizabeth
and Samuel Vorhees Harding's marriage,
Brewer was 28 years old and for those
times, she was considered a spinster. She
was a school teacher and Sam worked in
the construction industry, at this time
he was building bridges. He was 6 years
younger than she.
The PORTER family said
that they would disown Brewer Elizabeth
should she marry Sam. The PORTER family helped
her with the complete wedding ceremony.
Brewer Elizabeth and Sam did get married,
with the PORTER's in attendance.
They handed her the dowry which consisted
of a team of horses and a buggy. Leaving
home, she naturally took the hopechest
that she had prepared.
After the wedding, everyone went
their own way and Brewer Elizabeth was
not allowed to write, visit or contact
the family for the rest of their lives.
The family considered her marrying Sam as
marrying beneath herself and carried out
their promise of disowning her. They
treated her as if she never existed. She
was saddened by this, however it never
interfered with her love of the Lord or
family.

Notes: Bruor or Brewer or
Brevore was born 1878 someone marked over our
family document and changed it to read b 1879.
I
have her death cert from TX as well as my
Ggranddad's Sam Harding which you will see his
entry soon...Another note on her name, Brewer. It
has been spelled Bruor in some instances & on
this family Document. I'm just going by how the
family said she spelled it.

before him they listed him as a widower on the
Death Certificate.
