How I became interested in genealogy:
Genealogy has been a passion of mine for many years. I first became interested in
learning about my family's past after listening to the many wonderful stories my Granny (great-grandmother)
Maggie Davis Burns used to tell me about when she was young. Granny told me of
horse & buggy days, of living on the farm, and of days when time was slow and
families were more than just a bunch of people with the same last name.
I was very young when Granny first told me these stories as we sat in her room
at the nursing home. I wish then that I had realized how important these memories
would be to me later. Granny has been gone now for several years, and I never had
the forsight to write any of her stories down. I now only remember bits and pieces
of the memories she shared with me; but it was her spirit and the love in her voice
that made me want to learn more about my family's past. I sometimes think that
Granny's spirit is with me as I do my genealogy research; for it was from the
love for her family that she was able to remember the days gone by; and it's from
the love for my family that I try to recapture the memories of those days.
