I managed to get a Historic designation for the COTTONWOOD CEMETERY of Henderson County.  We received the designation Oct. 1999.  Then early this year Wanda Shream and I managed to get the Historical Marker for the Cemetery.

Jasper County has Homer Cem. that already has its Historical marker as does Little Hope. These cem. are already indexed. Where do you want me to send the info? Virgi

Hi, We're still working on getting our Union Valley Cemetery in Coryell County surveyed and submitted.

In the last year I have completed Whitney, Oak Grove, Fort Graham, Neal Bones, Vaughn and New Woodbury Cemeteries. I am working on Bethlehem and hope to have it finished this week-end (9-30-2000)

"My" cemetery is one that I found several years ago and started work on. I was unable to continue for awhile and when I could get back to it, it had disappeared. I have since tried to determine what, and who, happened to it, but no luck. I don't even have a name for it.

I got several names, but I don't have any idea how many graves were there because it was all overgrown among trees and had been used for a dump site. The stones I did transcribe were burials dated 1917 to 1953.  The one from 1953 was a Korean War Vet.

I am trying to get into Winfree #1 cemetery here in Orange, TX. The owner refuses to allow anyone to enter.  It has a historical marker and is over grown with brush.  From a very good source the owner has knocked down the markers and buried them.

All this went to court and said owner won the case, but I understand that the court wasn't aware that he buried the markers.  This may be a closed case indefinitely.  Would love to see it cleaned up.  I understand this has been about 5 year ago. What a shame!

I do a lot of volunteer work with Texas cemeteries even tho I don't live in TX.  I help donna by screening her web pages before other people see them.  I've also helped  Joe Deaver with the Bell County Cemeteries.

You're a good friend, Betsy.

Sept. 29, 2000    This morning I located one cemetery (Smith) and one single grave. The Smith Cemetery only had three headstones and 6 or 7 fieldstones. All of these are on the LBJ National Grasslands in Wise County. At one time there was a hog wire fence around the Smith graves but parts are down now. These sites both have to be walked to. All the headstones were still standing and in good shape, considering there have been cows running loose in the area. I will say that I could not have found these graves if it weren't for David Weldon and John Beck who work for the grasslands and gave me exact directions to the site. I thank them very much.

I am transcribing the Peoples Burial and New Trinity Cemetery in Haltom City; corner of Beach and 28th Street. Fretwell Cemetery has been completed. It is located at the same property as the two mentioned above.

Really haven't had problems, just the usual bugs and such. Tarrant County inmates have done a great job of cleaning this property up. They have uncovered several humdred more stones there over the past few years. Transcription will probably take another 6 months to a year to complete.    judy

I think this may be a dumb question....If the land the cemetery is on is where a building that is historic is the cemetery considered historic also?

The Socorro Mission was built in 1680's with the cemetery on the same property. It would seem so but I would like some comment on this. The office has a cemetery book for the 1800's. I have asked to transcribe it but with no success. Next month I will walk the cemetery as that seems all I can accomplish.
