The Cole and Ogden grocery store located in the Balwin building next to the post office, did not open for business on Monday of this week. C A Cole the proprietor having turned the keys over to his attorney B W Nye. It is understood that Mr. Cole intends to file a petition in bankruptcy although this had not been done up to last night. As the recently published report of the Farmers an d Merchants Band shows the grocery firm of Cole and Ogden was a a large debtor to that institution and it is said to have other debts that cannot be met. The bankruptcy petition will probably be filed very soon and the usual course will then be followed. It is a general surprise to the public to learn when the bank failed that Cole and Ogden owed it so large a sum. and there has since been much conjecture as to the purposes for which the money was borrowed and used. This and many others things may be cleared up later.

The telegraph reports the following.. James H Young for many years a resident of Bath NY attempted suicide June 16th in that village by lacing the muzzle of a pistol in his ear, and discharging it. the ball instead of passing through the brain, came out through the face, near the nose, making a frightful wound. Dependency was the cause of this rash act.  It is thought that he will recover.
