        SUMMER’S FALL

Concentrate!
The swirling of a Golden Leaf
Fluttering from the heavens,
Feathery, soft and helpless;
It glides to the Autumn ground....

Hark!
Morning, dark, songless, dreary,
Afternoon, as bleak;
Twixt Daylight’s start,
And Evening’s end
The cock begins to crow....

Behold!
Masses dark of noiseless birds,
Destined to the South;
Seems they know, with instincts keen,
Harsh Winter’s almost here.
