James C. Barrett, 81, of Franklin RD 4, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, in St. Vincent Health Center, Erie. Born May 21, 1919, in Manila, Philippine Islands, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barrett. When Japan attacked the Philippines in December 1941, Mr. Barrett volunteered for duty with the U.S. Army. He served during World War II with the 31st Infantry. He was on Batman Peninsula when it fell to the Japanese. He spent three years as a prisoner of war in Kobe, Japan. While a prisoner of war, he witnessed the dark cloud and heard the blast of the atomic bomb being dropped on Nagasaki. Mr. Barrett had been employed as a carpenter, pipe fitter and plumber. He was employed for 30 years by C.P.T., retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Barrett enjoyed carpentry, working in his yard and raising plants. He was married in October 1947 to the former Anna Jane Barrett, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Shelia LESTER and her husband, Dick, of Eureka, Calif., and Linda Barrett of Mission Viejo, Calif.; three sons, Joel Barrett of Mission Viejo. Calif., John Barrett of Torrance, Calif., and Bruce Barrett and his wife, Sherie, of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Bobbie, Scott and Julianna Lester of Eureka. Calif., Joanna Barrett of Torrance, Calif., and Andrew Barrett of Franklin; and a great-grandson. He also is survived by a sister, Felli Barrett of California. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Manning officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Shirley McFall Kooman, 74, of Claremont, Calif., formerly of Oil City, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, in the Care Center of Claremont. Mrs. Kooman had suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years. Born Feb. 27, 1927, in Ridgway, she was a daughter of J. Earl and Mildred McFall. Mrs. Kooman spent her early years in Oil City and was a 1944 graduate of Oil City High School. Following graduation, she was employed at Pennzoil until her marriage Aug. 23, 1947, to John W. "Jack" Kooman, who survives. With outside activities curtailed by her illness, Mrs. Kooman took great pleasure in family members and her many friends. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Don DiLUCCIA of San Clemente, Calif., and Kristin and Galen FREDERICK of Claremont, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also is survived by five sisters, Bettie HUGHES of Oil City, Rita WATSON of Elkhart, Ind., Mary GRAY of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Alma PEARSON of Arvada, Colo., and Sallie GILFORD of Lickingville; two brothers, Bruce McFall and Clark McFall, both of Oil City; and a sister-in-law, Katherine DEY of Grand Junction, Colo. Mrs. Kooman was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marjorie JOHNSTON and Carol MATHERS; and two brothers, Albert McFall and Dennis McFall. Services were held Thursday, April 5, in Todd Memorial Chapel in Claremont, followed by private interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Covina, Calif.

Clifford Lewis "Sonny" Sibble, 69, of Suburban Trailer Court, Seneca, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his residence. Born Nov. 22, 1931, in Oil City, he was a son of Clifford Charles and Annabelle COBURN Sibble. Mr. Sibble served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed by Rhodes Construction, Foster Forbes Glass and the City of Oil City in the sanitation department. Mr. Sibble enjoyed fishing. He was married Nov. 22, 1952, to the former Winifred Marie KENNEDY, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Howard (Sandra) DeLOE of Oil City RD 2, Evelyn HENRY of Oil City, Mrs. Allen (Karen) CRAIG and Mrs. David (Kimberly) PERRY, both of Seneca, and Mrs. Jake (Joyce) HAZLETT of Franklin; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one brother, Howard Sibble of Oil City; three sisters, Mrs. James (Shirley) PRATT, Mrs. Robert (Delorna) FIRSTER and Judy GRAHAM, all of Titusville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sibble was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Sibble; and two grandsons. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Tommy Harvey, pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Fertigs, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family.

Anthony L. Dills, 80, of Stone House Road, Clarion, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Beverly Healthcare, Shippenville. Born June 9, 1920, in Waterson, Clarion County, he was a son of Joseph and Virginia CORDONE Dills. Mr. Dills retired from Owens-Illinois in Clarion, where he worked as a machine operator. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion, The Clarion Masonic Lodge No. 277, F. & A.M., and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clarion. He was a member and past president of the Owens-Illinois Club. Mr. Dills was a former Clarion volunteer firefighter and was a member of the Fire Police. His hobby was woodworking. Mr. Dills first was married April 14, 1944 to Evelyn Jane RUPERT, who died Nov. 25, 1996. He then was married to Mary Ellen CUMMINGS YOUNG, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Edward Dills of Wexford; a daughter, Linda Suzanne BOOK of Rimersburg; and three grandchildren, Daniel Dills and Kathryn Dills, both of Wexford, and Bonnie Book of Maryland. He also is survived by two sisters, Ann BISHOP of Indiana, Pa., and Margaret LANDWEHR of Palm City, Fla. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Dills was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with interment to follow in the Strattanville Cemetery.

Charles F. "Bill" Straub, 90, formerly of Rouseville, died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, in the Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, following an extended illness. He had been residing in Concordia Home in Cabot. The Reinsel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Monday in the Derrick. ROSE R WRHEN Rose R. Wrhen, 91, formerly of Oil City and Leetsdale, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Mariner Health Center, Moon Township. Born March 28, 1910, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Albert Edward and Kate MERRIMAN REYNOLDS. Mrs. Wrhen worked as an accountant with John K. Davis and at one time had worked for Envirotrol Inc. of Sewickley. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Leetsdale. Mrs. Wrhen was married to Thomas Willard Wrhen, who preceded her in death. Surviving are two children, Edward T. Wrhen of Leetsdale and Carol CHACHIN of Florida; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Richard D. Cole Funeral Home, 328 Beaver St., Sewickley. There will be no visitation Easter Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Sewickley Cemetery.
