Helen M. VanZandt, 78, of 674 Grant St., Franklin, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. Born May 6, 1921, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Charles and Mary HINES MYERS. At one time, Mrs. VanZandt worked at Anderson's Green house, Franklin. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Franklin. Mrs. VanZandt was a member of the Venango County Association of Retarded Children and a member of the Venango County Camping Association. She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, camping and reading. Mrs. VanZandt was married July 28, 1948, to Harry E. Van Zandt, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Harry A. VanZandt of Grapevine, Texas, Glenn W. HOVIS of Sandy Lake and Mrs. Frederick (Esther) STEVENS of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, Richard McANINCH, Robert McAninch, Maria WHITLING and Mrs. Paul (Kelly) SWATZLER, all of Franklin, Curtis McAninch of Sunville, Mrs. Dan (Robin) HILL of Baden, Jeff Hovis of Stoneboro, Tina COLLIER of Berlin, Md., Eric VanZandt, Christopher VanZandt and Stacey VanZandt, all of Euless, Texas; and Anastasia Hovis of Sandy Lake; and eight great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother and his wife, Robert and Irene Myers of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) GILLESPIE of Ellwood City. In addition to her parents, Mrs. VanZandt was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim M. VanZandt. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Raymond Schermerhorn, interim pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Franklin, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Franklin.
Mabel G. Bailey, 67, of West Freedom, Parker RD 1, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. Born June 28, 1932, in Perry Township, Clarion County, she was a daughter of Lewis and Inez BOYD CLAWSON. Mrs. Bailey was a member of the West Freedom United Methodist Church. She was married Oct. 25, 1952, to Donald L. Bailey, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, George Brenton Bailey of Pittsburgh and Joseph Bradley Bailey of Jersey Shore; and four grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother, Paul Clawson of West Freedom; four sisters, Florence FOX of Clarview Nursing Home, Sligo RD 1, Jeanette WIKE of Parker, Mrs. James (Minnie) CALLENDER of West Freedom and Mrs. Don (Betty) YOUNG of Cortland, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lucille Clawson; and four brothers, Wes Clawson, Richard Clawson, Robert Clawson and Joseph Clawson. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Interment will be in West Freedom Cemetery near Parker.
Louis Lloyd Brown Jr., 79, of 20215 Village Green Drive, Lake wood, Calif., formerly of Franklin, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, in Long Beach Veterans Medical Center, Long Beach, Calif., following a four-month ill ness. Born July 28, 1920, in Franklin, he was a son of Louis Lloyd Brown Sr. and Vera SANFORD Brown. He was a 1939 graduate of Franklin High School. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 bomber. His plane was shot down over Germany Oct. 14, 1943, known as Black Thursday. He was a prisoner of war for 19 months, held in Stalag 17-B Camp in Krems, Austria. He resided in Franklin until 1947, when he moved to California. Mr. Brown retired from Northrop-Grumman Aircraft Co. in Hawthorne, Calif., after 25 years of service, 13 of which were spent in Saudi Arabia as a con tract administrator. He belonged to various organizations in California, and enjoyed golfing and bowling. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Claire Kennedy BROWN, formerly of Ingomar, Pa. He also was survived by a daughter, Linda L. ISAAC of Reno, Nev., who died suddenly Aug. 1, 1999, the day after her father's death; and is survived by a son, Russell B. Brown of Reno, Nev.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister and her husband, Dorothy Ann and Vance W. LERCH of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Arnold '' Bud'' DITZENBERGER. A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, Calif., with the Rev. Steve Isenman officiating. Private interment with full military honors was held in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.
Walter R. Clark, 89, of 1040 Mount Pleasant Road, Lebanon, formerly of Shippenville, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, in Lebanon's Good Samaritan Hospital.
