Norma Jean McElhinney Barger, 75, of Callensburg, died at 3:05 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at the home of her daughter, Pat Nader of Cochranton, after a battle with cancer. Born Feb. 15, 1924, in Harrisville, she was a daughter of Clyde and Elenor THOMPSON. She was raised by her grandparents, Ford and Nora Thompson, on a farm near Clintonville. For many years, Mrs. Barger worked as a cosmetologist at the Crawford Store and at Carlisle's in Meadville and Erie. She was a member of the Church of God in Callensburg. Mrs. Barger first was married Nov. 17, 1939, to James E. McElhinney, who died Aug. 11, 1982. She then married Jardine '' Jab'' Barger, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Thomas J. and Carol McElhinney of Conneaut Lake and Edward E. and Deborah McElhinney of Franklin; two daughters and their husbands, Vera J. and William SEELEY of Springboro and Patricia G. and Raymond NADER of Cochranton; one stepson and his wife, Richard and Bonnie Barger of Tylersburg; 14 grand children; 21 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Barger was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Thompson. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 103 Emlenton St., Clintonville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Hepler, pastor of the Callensburg Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in the Peters Chapel Cemetery, Irwin Township, Venango County. Ann N. Chazen, 79, of Clarion RD 3, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 14, 1999, at her residence. Born Dec. 20, 1919, in Clarion Township, Clarion County, she was a daughter of James S. and Gertrude STARK DINGER. Mrs. Chazen retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Co., Clarion, where she worked for 38 years as a crew leader in the selecting department. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. Surviving are one son, John T. Chazen of Sumter, S.C.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Robert (Katherine) HUMMEL of Warren, Pa.; and her niece, Mrs. Jean KAHLE of Mechanicsville. Mrs. Chazen was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Betty LEIDS; and five brothers. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion. A Christian wake service will be held at 1:45 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Clarion, with the Rev. Frank Przepierski, pastor, as the presider. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Clarion.
Kenneth L. Goetz, 73, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-Oil City, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Erie, he was a son of William J. and Margaret A. HELET Goetz. Mr. Goetz was a Protestant. Surviving are two brothers, William O. Goetz of Rockland and Howard Goetz of Erie; and one sister, Helen C. Goetz of Fairview. Mr. Goetz was preceded in death by his parents. The Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation and no services. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Erie County.
Patricia Virginia Ritchey, 63, of Kittanning RD 7, formerly of Hawthorn, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Kittanning. Born March 10, 1936, she was a daughter of Lyle Howard and Helen Elizabeth HEETER CRAWFORD. She was a 1956 graduate of the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. Mrs. Ritchey was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of the Deaf, Pittsburgh, where she served as trustee and past secretary of the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League. She was active in the Altar Guild and Bible Study Share Group. She was a member of the Edgewood Deaf Senior Citizens. Mrs. Ritchey was married July 25, 1959, to Wayne L. Ritchey, who survives. Also surviving are her father, Lyle Howard Crawford of Hawthorn; two sisters, Nanci A. McCAULEY of Mill Hall and Lila Jean CONSTABLE of Ridgway; and several nieces and nephews. Her mother is deceased. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, and attended funeral services there at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Mark Ruppert, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church of the Deaf, Pittsburgh, will officiate. Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Charles D. Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. Clarion News, Tuesday, November 16, 1999: SISTER GENEVIEVE HEINRICH, OSB ERIE -- Sister Genevieve Heinrich, OSB, a member of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, following a brief illness. A native of Clarion, Sister Genevieve entered the Benedictine Sisters in 1932, professing her first monastic vows in 1934. She celebrated her 60th jubilee of monastic profession in 1994. She was a daughter of Charles and Cecilia LENHEART Heinrich of Clarion and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Clarion in 1932. Sister Genevieve's religious life was spent in household and food services. She ministered in convents in Clarion, Fryburg, Sharon and Oil City. For 38 years she worked in food and domestic services at Saint Benedict Convent and at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery. Since her retirement in 1989, she has been involved in community services at Mount Saint Benedict. She is survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and her religious community. Sister Genevieve was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Anna Heinrich; and five brothers, Joseph, John, Francis, Thomas, and Edward Heinrich. A memory service and transferal to the chapel at Mount Saint Benedict took place at 7 p.m. Monday, November 15. Viewing hours will be observed from 2 p.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 16. The Rite of Committal will take place at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, at Trinity Cemetery. Memorials in the name of Sister Genevieve can be made to Mount Saint Benedict Monastery.
