Jay French Miller, 77, of 2 Parkway, Miller Park, Franklin, died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at his residence. Born July 4, 1922, in Oil City, he was a son of J. French and Ethel NICKLAS Miller. He was the grandson of Gen. Charles Miller. Mr. Miller attended Franklin schools and graduated from Hill School in Pottstown. He was a graduate of the Whar ton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Miller was a veteran of World War II, serving as a U.S. Army corporal in the European Theatre. He served as president and chairman of the board for General Manifold and Printing Co. until the business was sold. He then became a stockbroker for Johnson and Keene in Philadelphia, where he remained for many years. He later moved to Buffalo N.Y. to take a position with First Buffalo. Mr. Miller then returned to Franklin and was president and chairman of the board of the Lake Erie, Franklin, Clarion Railroad, where he remained until the rail road was sold. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklin. He was a past president of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, the Franklin Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris fellow, the Franklin Club, Wanango Country Club, and the One Hundred Club. Mr. Miller was also very active in the Easter Seal Society, had been an honorary state chairman and was active with and a sup porter of the Franklin YMCA. On Nov. 15, 1947, he married the former Ruth B. ANDERTON, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jean Elizabeth Miller TENNYSON and her husband, Joseph, of Boston, and Mrs. Mary Helen Miller SOLARES of Encinitas, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Renee, Rey-Jay, Christina and Melinda Solares of Encinitas. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Huff Chapel in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Foremen, pastor of First Baptist Church of Franklin, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County, 308 Seneca St., Oil City, or a charity of one's choice.

Merle Bryan Baughman, 85, a four-year resident of The Caring Place, formerly of 11 Monroe St. Franklin, died at 8:20 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at The Caring Place, following a nine-year illness. Born Oct. 19, 1914, in Conifer, he was a son of Oren C. and Minnie T. DINGER Baughman. On March 30, 1937, he married Bernice A. FINCH and she survives. Mr. Baughman was a foreman for Brown Boiler Works, retiring in 1976. After retirement he worked in maintenance for the Franklin School District. Mr. Baughman previously worked as a construction fore man, welder and ironworker. He also worked on the Mackanic Bridge in Michigan. He also worked in the coal mines in the Brookville-Conifer area. While at Brown Boiler Works, he helped build water, oil and gasoline storage tanks across the United States. He was a member of the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church. Mr. Baughman was a member of the Franklin Eagles and enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sports, especially baseball. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by four children, Charles O. Baughman and his wife, Carolyn of Franklin, Mrs. Larry (Twila) WOLFORD of Franklin, Mrs. Edward (Maxine) HUTCHINSON of Willowick, Ohio and Mrs. Daniel (Carol) NEVILLE of Holland, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Dawna Wolford of Franklin, Dan and Christine Wolford of Chillicothe, Ohio, Mrs. Dan (Julie) REINSEL of Franklin, Bryan and Stacey Baughman of Franklin, Mrs. Mark (Tracy) SMEARMAN of Hamden, Ohio, Mrs. Carl (Leigh) ARCHIBALD of Wickcliffe, Ohio, David Hutchison of Cleveland, Rev. Stephen and Cheryl Neville of Zanesville, Ohio, Rev. Philip and Jill Neville of Ft. Worth, Texas and Timothy Neville of Boardman, Ohio. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Jacob and Paige Smearman of Hamden, Morgan Anne Neville of Zanesville, Mitchell Archibald of Wickcliffe, Dan Lancaster of Franklin and Sarah, Kaitlyn and Gabrielle Wolford of Chillicothe; and a brother, William Baughman of Brookville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Baughman; nine brothers, his twin Earl Baughman, Frank, Walt, Melvin, Clarence, Oren, Homer and Gerald Baughman and an infant brother; six sisters, Freda Baughman, Goldie Finch, Beulah GOLD, Carrie BULLERS and Ida and Geraldine Baughman. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Caring Place in Franklin with the Rev. Gary Small, pastor of the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church, and the Revs. Stephen and Philip Neville, grandsons of the Mr. Baughman, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

Frances V. Brecht, 89, of 415 N. Drake St., Titusville, died at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Titusville Area Hospital. Born Dec. 6, 1909, in Pleasantville, she was a daughter of Harry and Verna TUBBS BODINE. In August 1938, she was married to William C. Brecht at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Titusville by the Rev. Victor Wallenta. Mr. Brecht preceded her in death on June 1, 1985. Mr. and Mrs. Brecht resided in Titusville until 1950, then moved to Oil City. Mrs. Brecht returned to Titusville in 1993. She attended Pleasantville High School. Mrs. Brecht was employed by Quality Cash and later by the Titusville News Stand. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville and was a former member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Titusville. She enjoyed reading. Mrs. Brecht is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Philip CAUVEL of Titusville; two grandsons, Scott E. Cauvel and his wife, Jennifer, of Naperville, Ill., and Sean C. Cauvel and his wife, Amy, of Columbus, Ohio; a great grandson, Brendan W. Cauvel; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by an infant brother; an infant sister; a brother, Robert Bodine; and three sisters, Mrs. Mildred FORNOF, Mrs. Geraldine PROPER and Mrs. Margaret PEEBLES. Walter L. Caryl, 60, of Utica RD 1, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Sugar Creek Station. Born Feb. 17, 1939, in Sugarcreek, he was a son of John W. and Hazel A. HAUSE Caryl. On Oct. 5, 1962, he married Nellie GREENLEE and she survives. Mr. Caryl worked in the polishing department at Channelock for 27 years, retiring in 1994. He also worked for PennDOT as a foreman from 1963 to 1967. Mr. Caryl enjoyed spending time with his family. He served in the Army Nation al Guard from 1957 to 1965. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs., Robert (Nichelle) RODGERS of Carlton and Mrs. Larry (Tara Lee) DELONG of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) BOUQUIN of Oil City; three grandchildren, Ethan Rodgers and Tyler and Betsy Jo Delong; and a nephew, Robert A. Bouquin Jr. of Oil City. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Morrie Caryl. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Ronald Dickson Funeral Home in Cochranton. Bessie U. Fox, 86, of Knox RD 1, formerly of Oil City RD 2, died early Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at her home. Born Aug. 1, 1913, in Big Run, Henderson Township, Jefferson County, she was a daughter of John C. and Iva E. GREEN REED. On March 1, 1936, she married Kenneth B. Fox, and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1996. She is survived by five sons, Charles Fox and his wife, Sara, of Big Run, Robert Fox and his wife, Claudia, of Oil City, Thomas Fox and his wife, Mabel Sue, of Franklin, Richard Fox and his wife, Linda, of Kennerdell and John Fox and his wife, Sharon, of Oil City; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Ghyneth) SEIGWORTH of Knox and Mrs. Gerald (Ethel) SEIGWORTH of Reno; 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mrs. Fox is also survived by four sisters, Myrtle IRWIN of Union City, Rosalie HENRY and Marion McKEE of Punxsutawney and Esther GRAY of Abingdon, Md. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Harry L. Fox and James A. Fox; three sisters, Leona Reed, Zella SESTI and ALberta Reed; and a brother, Charles Reed. Cleta M. England, 77, of Emlenton, formerly of St. Petersburg, died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at the Chicora home of her daughter, following a short illness. Born March 24, 1922, in West Freedom, she was a daughter of Cora Mae HAUGH. She was raised by her grandparents, Arthur and Goldie COOPER. She was affiliated with the St. Petersburg Church of the Nazarene. In her early years, Mrs. England was employed as a cook for several Emlenton area restaurants. She married Eugene W. England on Dec. 23, 1940, in Pittsburgh and he preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1989. Mrs. England is survived by a son, William A. England of Franklin; a daughter, Mary Ellen England of Chicora; three brothers, Harold Haugh of Toledo, Ohio, William Haugh of Michigan and Harry Haugh of Parker; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (June) HOVIS of Florida and Mrs. Roy (Mary) KRIEBEL of Wheatland; eight grandchildren;16 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and mother, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma J. LIEBERUM; and a grandson, Gregory A. Lieberum; and two brothers, John and Leroy. Clarence F. (Buck) Riddle, 71, of Kennerdell RD 2, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Northwest Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Riddle has lived in Kennerdell since 1963. He previously resided in Clintonville. Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Marion Township, he was a son of Clarence Wilbur and Alena BURK Riddle. On March 5, 1951, he married Mabel J. MEALS and she survives. Mr. Riddle worked at Brown Boiler Works, retiring in 1982. He also worked at Allison Engineer in Slippery Rock as a heavy equipment operator. He was a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Clintonville and was affiliated with the Hickory Grove Church of God in Victory Town ship. He attended the McCoy School in Scrubgrass Township. Mr. Riddle served in the Army Air Force from Feb. 28, 1946 to Sept. 6, 1947. During his time in the service he completed training for a teletype mechanic and AAF tech school at Scottfield, Ill. He is survived by a son and his wife, Gary L. and Linda L. Riddle of Polk RD 1 and two grandchildren, Brad R. and Merideth A. Riddle of Polk RD 1 and Alisha A. Riddle of Polk RD1 and her fiance, Craig Dick. Marrlyn L. Sisney, 71, of Riverside Drive, Oil City RD 2, died at 9:56 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at the Indiana Hospital in Indiana. She had been staying with her son. Born March 21, 1928, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Walter and Lena AUSEL TARR. Mrs. Sisney worked at Hays Bakery and Weaver Chevrolet and was a notary public. She was married to Bert SISKO, who preceded her in death in 1955. She later married James D. Sisney, who survives. Mrs. Sisney was an avid card player and enjoyed bingo. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Frank W. Sisko and his wife, Betty, of Indiana; two grandchildren, Scott Sisko and Julie Sisko, of Indiana; a great granddaughter, Alexis Sisko of Indiana; a sister, Ruth MEALY of Oil City; three nieces, Patty WILLIAMS of Oil City, Rosie JONES and Phyllis Tarr of Elmira. N. Y.; and two nephews, Dan Mealy of Conneaut Lake and Robert Tarr of Elmira, N.Y. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Tarr, Robert Tarr and Richard Tarr. Adam Richard Smith, 60, of 18 Grant St., Buffalo, N.Y., formerly of Clarion, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at the Erie County Medical Center. Born Oct. 1, 1939, in Alton, Ill., he was a son of Adam S. and Helen Mae TINGLEY Smith. He was in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958. Mr. Smith owned an automobile repair business and operated Adam's Cab and delivery services in Buffalo. He was a 1957 graduate of Clarion Area High School, where he played varsity football. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert James and Patricia Ann Smith of Appleton, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Interment will be in the New Rehoboth Cemetery. Cora Ruth Wheeling, 89, of 180 1/2 Cherry Run Road, Rouseville, died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at her son's Rouseville home. Born May 12, 1910, in Kaneville, she was a daughter of Frank P. and Myrtle L. HANCOX NEELY. She was first married to Ernest E. STAUB and later married Leroy Wheeling, who preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1971. Mrs. Wheeling and her first husband owned and operated the former Tunerville Tavern. She and her second husband owned the Sportsman's Tavern in Kaneville and the Rouseville Laundromat. She was also employed at many local dress shops in Titusville. Mrs. Wheeling was known for her baking and cooking. She attended Rouseville United Methodist Church. She was active in donating to and supporting Rouseville Borough functions. Mrs. Wheeling is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Joan Staub of Rouseville; seven grandchildren, Michelle LEMKE, Lisa LYNCH, John Staub, Crystal ALLEN, Timothy Staub, Connie WHITMAN and Kim B;OZMESLU; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ernest K. Staub; a great-grandson, Jamie Whitman; four sisters, Mildred SHAMBURG, Tone STAUB, Mae Neely and Margaret ORWIG; and two brothers, Kenneth Neely and Edward Neely. Bertha Mae Dailey, 94, of Franklin RD 1, formerly of Grove City, died at 6:57 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Grove Manor in Grove City. Born Feb. 7, 1905, in Franklin, she was a son of Ziba M. and Julia Ann WHITTEN DILLEY. On Dec. 17, 1932, she married Max P. Dailey and he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1965. She was a homemaker and was employed at Manifold Co. of Franklin before moving to Grove City. Mrs. Dailey was a member of The Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Grove City. She was a former Sunday School teacher and an accomplished pianist, playing piano for church and community affairs. Mrs. Dailey lived with the Rev. Robert and Sandra Scheer and attended Valley Chapel Churches of the Franklin area for the past three years. She is survived by 10 children, Betty Dailey of Franklin, Julia MINNICK of Meadville, Betty McKAY of Grove City, Dixie L. THOMPSON and her husband, Richard, of Grove City, Sandra SCHEER and her husband, The Rev. Robert Scheer, of Franklin RD 1, Max P. Dailey Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., Bill Dailey of Oil City and Donald Dailey, Richard A. Dailey and James E. Dailey, all of Grove City. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchil dren. Mrs. Dailey was preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis Dilley, Charles Dilley, Harve Dilley and Joseph Dilley; a sister, Emma; and a grandson, Mark Lewis Dailey. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Grove City.
