Betty Elaine Griffin, 65, of 417 Second St., Franklin, died at 9:32 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. Born June 3, 1934, in Hannaville, she was a daughter of Lawrence Kimbal WHEELING and Marietta Elizabeth GOODSPEED Wheeling. Mrs. Griffin was a homemaker and enjoyed embroidery. She was married Dec. 10, 1955, to Blain '' Bing'' Griffin, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, James and Mari on WHITMAN of Franklin and William '' Bill'' and Janice Griffin of North Carolina; a daughter, Clarissa '' Chris'' WHITLING of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two brothers and their wives, Richard '' Dick'' and May Wheeling of Franklin and Lawrence '' Bill'' and Jackie Wheeling of Auburn, Wash.; two great-aunts, Leola Whitman of Franklin and Fern DEMBECK of Petrolia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Whitman; and a sister, Marilynn L. Wheeling. The Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home in Franklin is in charge of arrangements. There will be no public viewing. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Lupher Chapel Cemetery with Azro Rankin officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to Northwest Medical Center at Franklin or to the Renal Care Unit of Oil City.
Opal Blair Bell, 92, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Franklin and widow of the Rev. F. Martin Bell, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Lakeland where services will be held.
Nellie M. Frantz, 84, formerly of 3 Crestview Road, Rocky Grove, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin RD 3. Born Aug. 23, 1915, in Brookville, she was a daughter of Ralph M. and Anna Agnes WINTERS SNYDER. Mrs. Frantz worked in Byers Hardware Store until 1937 and then became a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting. Mrs. Frantz was married June 21, 1937, to Walter J. Frantz, who died Jan. 25, 1994. Surviving are two sons, Samuel Thomas Frantz of Franklin and Edward LeRoy Frantz of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Linda) VOGUS of Franklin; eight grand children; and four great-grand children. She also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Fred (Ruth) HOLCOMB of Youngsville. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Frantz was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Ellen SOLES; and a son, Frederick Walter Frantz. Mildred Irene Yates, 89, of Rimersburg RD 1, died at 2:23 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin following an illness. She had been a resident of Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Sligo RD 1 since May 1, 1998. Born May 27, 1910, in Oakmont, Allegheny County, she was a daughter of Walter and Mina E. FLICK MITCHELL. Mrs. Yates was a member of the Licking Cherry Run Presbyterian Church where she had served as an elder, treasurer, Sun day school teacher and janitor. She did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Yates was a Republican committeewoman for East Toby Township, Clarion County. She was married in Sligo July 23, 1928, to Earl Frederick Yates, who died Oct. 5, 1982. Surviving are five sons, Jack Yates of Shippenville RD 2, Gene Roger Yates of Palmyra, N.Y., Walter Charles Yates of Sligo, Donald Robert Yates and his wife, Sue of Homosassa, Fla., and Jay Alan Yates of Rimersburg RD 1; three daughters, Ms. Salvatore (Janice Loraine) TASCARELLA of East Brady, Mrs. Gerald (Judith) SNYDER of Sligo and Mrs. Lester (Joy Ailene) RHODES of Rimersburg RD 1; 21 grandchildren; 25 greatgrandchildren; and two greatgreat-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother and his wife, Walter Lloyd and Jean Mitchell of Limestone; two sisters, Mrs. Doris FOWLER of Butler and Mrs. Ida Belle GALLAGHER of Parker; and a number of nieces and nephews. James Michael Lee V, 17, of 1113 1/2 15th St., died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his residence. Born Nov. 14, 1981, in Orange, Calif., he was a son of James Michael Lee IV and Debra SECULES. He was a 1999 graduate of Franklin High School and was enrolled in the Pennsylvania Institute of Aeronautics, Pittsburgh, where he was to begin classes in January. He was employed at Primo Barone's Restaurant. Surviving are his stepfather, Scott M. FINCH; his mother, Debra Finch of Franklin, with whom he made his home; his father, James Michael Lee IV of Kaui, Hawaii; and a brother, Gibson Finch of Franklin. He also is survived by his grandparents, George and Betty Finch of Flint, Mich.; Phil and Mary Jane Secules of Franklin; James Michael Lee III of Franklin; and Marilyn LEBRUN of California; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Patricia L. '' Pat'' Neiswonger, 62, of 47 Hickory Ridge Road, Fairmount City, Redbank Town ship, Clarion County, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Born July 14, 1937, in Distant, Armstrong County, she was a daughter of William and Viola MILLNER BAILEY. Mrs. Neiswonger worked as a laborer and also was a homemaker. She attended the Leasure Run United Methodist Church at New Bethlehem RD 3. Mrs. Neiswonger was well known for making afghans and crocheting. She was married Nov. 25, 1955, to Ruloff E. Neiswonger Jr., who survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, Lyle and Judy Neiswonger of Mayport RD 1; three daughters, Debbie GRABHOPPER and her husband, Ralf, of Sarasota, Fla., Pam BUSSARD and her husband, Denny, of New Bethlehem and Vicki GREENWALT of Clarion; and seven grandchildren. She also s survived by three brothers, Robert Bailey of Florida, Delmar Bailey of Fairmount City RD 1 and Denton Bailey of Arizona. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Neiswonger was preceded in death by an infant sister, Charlotte Bailey; and a brother, Byron Bailey. Elly Christine Pfauth, 69, of Whig Hill, Tionesta, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in the Titusville Area Hospital after a long illness. Born Dec. 6, 1929, in Semarang, then the Dutch East Indies and now Indonesia, she was the daughter of the late Cornelis and Christina KLASSEN BOON. During World War II, Mrs. Pfauth spent some time in a Japanese concentration camp. She moved from the Nether lands in 1946 and married John Pfauth March 14, 1951. He survives. They moved to the United States in 1955 and she and her husband owned and operated Professional Realty Co. in Tionesta. Mrs. Pfauth was a member of the Tionesta Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. Surviving, in addition to her hus band, are a son, Robert C. Pfauth of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter, Judith E. Van BAARLEN, and her husband, Nico, of Amstelveen, The Netherlands; and two granddaughters, Ingrid and Tessa of Amstelveen. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Norman J. Eleanor K. Snyder, 83, formerly of 11 Little Pine Place, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in The Caring Place. Born April 11, 1916, in Franklin, she was a daughter of James A. and Mable K. SMITH Snyder. Miss Snyder attended a private girls school in Hollidaysburg. She worked at the Mercer Cottage Hospital as a nurses aide during World War II. Miss Snyder was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin and the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are a brother, James A. Snyder Jr. of Franklin, two nieces, Mrs. Thomas (Carol) TIDD and Mrs. Thomas (Janet) GREEN, both of Franklin; a nephew, James A. Snyder III of Rogers, Ark.; a grandniece, Christie Snyder, and a grandnephew, A.J. Snyder, both of Rogers, Ark. The Huff Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be private. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in The Caring Place with the Rev. Rob Guy, chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery. Edward T. Strawbridge, 27, of Eau Claire, who was raised in Clintonville, died Friday night in a shooting incident in Marion Township, Butler County. Prior to moving to Eau Claire, he lived for five years in Jupiter, Fla. He was born Aug. 2, 1972, in Clintonville, a son of Jack R. and Rose C. STROM Strawbridge. He was a graduate of Franklin High School. Mr. Strawbridge was employed as a records clerk at National City Bank in Boyers. He enjoyed poetry and had many of his poems published. He was a member of the National Poetry Guild. Mr. Strawbridge was a devoted father. He enjoyed playing softball and golf and also enjoyed music. He was married to Betsy K. Cravenor. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Kyle Jacob Strawbridge at home; four sisters, Mrs. Cork (Rosemary) MUHA of Clintonville, Mrs. Ffennell (Marilyn) BRINKLEY of Cherry Valley, Claire KERR of Jupiter, Fla., and Mrs. Darrell (Linda) FREY of Sandy Lake; two brothers, Jack R. Strawbridge Jr. of Grove City and James M. Strawbridge of Clintonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 103 Emlenton St., Clintonville.
