Robert D. Mann, 70, of New Bethlehem RD 2, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County, died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Born Oct. 5, 1929, in Climax, Armstrong County, he was a son of Daniel J. and Margaret J. Anthony Mann. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mann had been an accountant for H.K. Porter Co. at Climax and later for Toy Drilling Co. of Distant. He was a member of the Oak land Church of God in Distant. Mr. Mann was a lifelong member of the Distant Fire Co. and was treasurer of the Oakland Cemetery Association in Distant at the time of his death. He also held membership in the Walter W. Craig American Legion Post No. 354 of New Bethlehem. Mr. Mann was a tax collector for 12 years for Mahoning Town ship, Armstrong County. He was married June 5, 1954, to Wanda Young, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Randy D. Mann of New Bethlehem RD 1, Paul L. Mann of Distant and Brian E. Mann of New Bethlehem RD 2; and 10 grand children. He also is survived by one sister, Mrs. Thelma Henry of Brookville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mann was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Porter, in 1978; two brothers, Dalton Mann and James Mann; and one sister, Lois Pence. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Charles D. Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. Viewing also will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Oakland Church of God at Distant. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the church with the Rev. Todd Faulkner, associate pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery at Distant, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County.

William J. Paxton, 88, of 8221 Lamor Road, Mercer, formerly of 3414 Main St., Sandy Lake, died Thursday morning, Nov. 4, 1999, in the Countryside Nursing Home. Born Dec. 26, 1910, in Findley Township, he was a son of James J. and Tina Moon Paxton. He was a graduate of Grove City High School. Mr. Paxton owned and operated North Hill Dairy which he established in 1940. He also worked for Grove City National Bank, Eastern States and Agway Feeds. He was a clerk of sales for Bra ham Auction for 35 years and was an agent and director for Pymatuning Fire Insurance Co. until 1998. Mr. Paxton was a member of the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church. He served as a Stoneboro Fair director. Mr. Paxton was a past grand master and a 50-year member of the Sandy Lake IOOF Lodge No. 573 and was a 50-year member of the Sandy Lake-New Vernon Grange. He played the harmonica and called for square dancing. Mr. Paxton was married May 24, 1931, to Edyth L. Boyd, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Shirley Paxton of Oil City, Mrs. Lloyd (Anna Louise) Braham of Grove City and Mrs. Gordon (Eileen) Opitz of Sandy Lake; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Paxton was preceded in death by five brothers, Ardell Paxton, Mer le Paxton, Paul Paxton and Wilson Paxton and an infant, Lloyd; and four sisters, Helen Yarian, Josephine Brakeman and Vera Paxton and an infant, Jenny. Viewing hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Alexander-McMullen Funeral Home, Sandy Lake. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. Joe MacDonald, pastor of the Sandy Lake Presby terian Church, officiating.
