Marion A. Altman, 70, of Fairborn, Ohio, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, in Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Born Dec. 8, 1928, in Clarion County, she was a daughter of Charles and Goldie (LOOMAN) WENNER. Mrs. Altman was the owner/operator, beautician and cosmetologist of the Hair Care Center in Fairborn. She was an associate member of the Retired Air Force Association and a member of the Abiding Christ Lutheran Church in Fairborn. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, James R. '' Jim' Altman; two sisters, Wilma SWITZER of Erie and Thelma STEWART of Fisher, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and three sisters. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lamartine with the Rev. Gary Hilfiger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Abiding Christ Lutheran Church at 326 E. Day ton Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, Ohio, 45324, or to the organization of one's choice. Arrangements were handled through the Belton Funeral Home in Fairborn. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery.

Warren Madison Edinger, 73, of Parker, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Northwest Medical Center in Franklin after a short illness. Born June 23, 1926, in Turkey City, Clarion County, he was the son of Floyd L. and Avanelle PRICE Edinger. In his early years he worked for the former B & O Railroad. He then began working with the former Wightman Glass Co., later Glass Containers Corp., of Parker. He retired after 32 years of service with the company. Mr. Edinger was of Protestant faith. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Berlin Bowser Post 720 American Legion in Knox. Surviving are a daughter, Edna R. (Becky) BOORECH of East Brady; a granddaughter, Mrs. William (Lisa A.) BARTLEY of Parker; a great-granddaughter, Sadye Bartley of Parker; and a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is one brother, Edward W. Edinger of Greenville. Mr. Edinger married Doris Louise PETTY on Jan. 20, 1946. She died Nov. 16, 1995. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Edinger. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home on Wayne Street in Parker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Anschutz, pastor of Parker Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery.

Ronald H. Jones, 70, of Tionesta, formerly of Washington, Pa., died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in Elk Regional Medical Center, St. Marys, following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 2, 1929, in Arm strong County, he was a son of Henry Hibbert and Ardith RUMBERGER Jones. Mr. Jones attended Kittanning schools. He was a retired C fabricator at Cooper Industries. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He received the Victory Medal and Japan Occupation Medal. Mr. Jones was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church and a deacon. He was also a member of American Legion Post 175. He was an adopted Northern Cheyenne Indian and had a Native American name of Bald Eagle. His adoptive father was Okima Straywolf, and his adoptive mother was Elder Walks-With-Wolves. On June 28, 1958, he married Patricia Louise NEFF, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert C. Jones of Washington; four daughters, Shari Jones, Rona CARTER and Dana JOHNSON, all of Washington, and Debra ULLOM of Claysville; one brother, Kenneth Jones of Kittanning; a sister, Helen CROSS of Kittanning, and five grandchildren, Mark and Matthew Ullom, Ashley Jones, Christa Carter and Billy Johnson. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, the time of services, at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. The Rev. Susan VandeKappelle will officiate at the service. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Gardens. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.

Norman R. '' Sonny' King, 79, of Grove City, died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at the United Community Hospital in Grove City. Born Dec. 17, 1919, in Emlenton, he was a son of Isaac and Myrtle LUPINE King. Mr. King was of the Protestant faith. He worked for 30 years at the Mercer Forge Co. in Mercer. He retired in the early 1970s. Following his retirement, Mr. King enjoyed serving as a handyman in the Grove City area for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delores TURAN King. She died Nov. 21, 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Norma King of Erie and Mrs. Tim (Barbara) SAY of Grove City; four sons, Richard King of Hubbard, Ohio, Robert L. King of Mercer, Douglas A. King of Sharon and Michael S. King, also of Sharon; 18 grandchildren; six great-grand children and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald M. King, on Sept. 21, 1992, and two brothers and a sister. Private graveside services will be held today at the Emlenton Cemetery. The Christopher M. Hile Funeral Home in Emlenton is in charge of arrangements.

Betty J. LaVan, 42, of Parker, formerly of Harrisville, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Shady Side Hospital in Pittsburgh following a short illness. Born Dec. 5, 1956, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Clifton L. SAYERS of Rockland and the late N. Louise SLAGLE Sayers. Mrs. LaVan was a member of the Barkeyville United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making crafts. On Oct. 26, 1974, she was married to William H. LaVan. He survives. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two sons, Michael P. LaVan and his wife Dawn of Boyers and James R. LaVan and his fiance Marcia Ritenour of Parker; two daughters, Ruthann LaVan and her friend Jules Bishney of Parker and Jennifer L. KELLAR and her husband Josh of Cedartown, Ga.; two grandchildren, Megan J. LaVan of Parker and Timothy M. Kellar of Cedartown, Ga.; two brothers, David Sayers of Cochranton and Paul Sayers of Rockland; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Joanna) NiICHOLS of Neptune, N.J., and Mrs. David (Barbara) MAHLE of Rockland, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Christopher M. Hile Funeral Home in Emlenton. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lee Thompson, pastor of the Barkeyville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville, Butler County.

Stanley J. Kozallo, 82, of Franklin., died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at The Caring Place in Franklin. Born June 6, 1917, in Franklin, he was a son of George and Agnes Kozella. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. Mr. Kozallo was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre of operations. He was employed at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. for 47 years as a machinist. He retired in 1982. Mr. Kozallo was a member of St. Patrick Church. He was also a member of the Franklin Eagles and C.P.T. Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed fishing. On June 23, 1940, he married the former Genevieve FONZO. She survives along with a son, Donald J. Kozallo and his wife Eileen of New Castle; a granddaughter, Nikole Kozallo of New Castle, and a brother, Edmond Kozello of Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna KRESENSKI, and three brothers, Joe Kozella, Walter Kozella and Edward Kozella. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Huff Chapel in Franklin. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Mark A. Hoffman, associate pastor of St. Patrick, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick Church or school at 949 Liberty St.

Hazel M. McConnaughey, 92, of Oil City, died at 5:15 p.m. Fri day, Oct. 29, 1999, after a lengthy illness. Born May 21, 1907, in Venus, she was the daughter of John R. and Elnora GOODMAN KEVERLINE. She graduated from Oil City High School in 1925. Mrs. McConnaughey was employed by the Cunningham Dairy from 1926 to 1936. She then be came the secretary to A.F. Waslohn and C.W. Busch at the Purity Milk Co. She later became part-owner of the Purity Milk Co. with some other partners. Mrs. McConnaughey was a volunteer Red Cross nurse for 5 1/2 years and also be came a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the Cal vary United Methodist Church in Oil City and the United Methodist Women since 1928. She worked as secretary and treasurer of the primary department of the church for 27 years before retiring in 1965. Her main interests were caring for others and spending much time in her flower garden, mainly her rose rows. On June 7, 1980, she was married to Harry McConnaughey. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1990. Surviving are two nephews and their wives, Tom and Emily SANFORD and Dick and Ruth Sanford, both of Erie; one niece, Sarah Mae VITALE of Erie; her husband's nephew and wife, Jack and Betty MAUK of Brookville, and three close friends, Ruth Ann (Peg) Hockman and family of Coal Hill, Judi and Dwight Detar and family of Oil City and Ellen Pyles of Oil City. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel A. Sanford of Erie. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Osenider Funeral. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Don Poole, pastor of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Oil City, officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Dale Rhome, visitation pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Oil City. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry. The family suggests memorials be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 115 E. First St., Oil City.

Helen Caroline Ritchey, 59, of 100 Monarch Lane, Rimersburg, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, as the result of injuries she suffered in a two-car collision on Route 68 in Butler County. Born Feb. 12, 1940, in Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Anthony and Violet Jane WOMELDORF ANTHONY. Mrs. Ritchey attended the Sandy Hollow Community Church and had attended Union High School. She was employed at the McCall Egg Farm in Sligo and at the Eccles Nursery in Rimersburg. On Jan. 14, 1960, she married Ivan Lloyd Ritchey Sr. in Rimersburg. He was also injured in the accident and was hospitalized. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Ivan Lloyd Ritchey Jr. and Kevin Duane Ritchey, both of Rimersburg; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald L. (Lisa Jean) MAINES of Rimersburg and Mrs. Ronald L. (Patricia Ann) SIMPSON of Sligo; eight grand children, Leighla Nicole and Lindsay Michelle Ritchey, both of Fombell, Pa., Nathan Andrew and Ethan LeRoy Simpson, both of Sligo, and Dustin James, April Dawn, Cody Lee and Dalton Tanner Maines, all of Rimersburg; two brothers, Michael D. Anthony and his wife Louise of Clarion, and Henry Anthony of Rimersburg; six sisters, Mrs. Cora Mae PRIESTER, Mrs. Barbara BARGER, Mrs. Margie REED, Mrs. James (Nancy) GREENAWALT and Miss Alice Anthony, all of Rimersburg, and Mrs. Homer (Grace) BURKETT of Punxsutawney; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Anthony, James Anthony and William Anthony; two sisters, Rosie Anthony and Shirley Schill; and one grandson, Ivan Lloyd Ritchey III. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Edgar C. Moore, retired pastor, and the Rev. Barry Markle, pastor of the Sandy Hollow Community Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Lawsonham Cemetery.

Carl E. Saunders, 80, formerly of 709 McCalmont St., died at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Sugar Creek Station. Born Jan. 17, 1919, in Sugarcreek Borough, he was a son of the late Walter E. and Minnie BEATTY Saunders. Mr. Saunders was a janitor for the Franklin YMCA. He was a Protestant. Mr. Saunders was a CB operator with the handle of '' Popeye.' He also operated the children's train at the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department fair and took pride in helping his neighbors. He was the last living member of his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Saunders, and a sister, Pauline BENNETT. There will be no visitation. A private service will be held. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Charles E. Shrecengost of New Bethlehem died early Saturday morning, Oct. 30, 1999, at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo. Born April 26, 1916, in Mudlic, Pa., he was a son of the late Henry and Margaret SILVIS Shrecengost. He married Helen M. DOVERSPIKE, who survives. Mr. Shrecengost was a carpenter. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Bethlehem and a member of the Building Trade Carpenters Union Local 806. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and his wife, Richard L. and Sandra E. Shrecengost of New Bethlehem RD 1; two daughters, Lucille M. and her husband Clarence TABLER of Oil City, and Linda L. LAWSON of Clarion; 10 grandchildren, Wanda GRINDER, Wendy CORNMAN, Dale Shrecengost and Rodger Shrecengost, all of New Bethlehem, Andrew Tabler of Egypt, William Tabler of California, Jolynn BARGER of Knox, Jennifer CYPHERT of Lucinda, and Christopher Rearick and Carrie Lawson of Clarion; nine greatgrandchildren; a brother, Robert Shrecengost of New Bethlehem RD 1; and two sisters, Mabel KUBE of New Bethlehem RD 1 and Helen SHERIDAN of New Bethlehem. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clair Shrecengost, and a niece, Phylis McGARRITY. Friends will be received until the time of the service at 11 a.m. today at the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. Interment will follow at Hawthorn Cemetery. Josephine Wade Young, 94, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, died at 11:27 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. Born Nov. 24, 1905, in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, she was a daughter of Thomas Nixon and Dolly MIDDLETON Wade. She was employed by Quaker State Refinery's sterling oil division. Mrs. Young was a member of the Emlenton United Methodist Church. On Feb. 19, 1954, she married Joseph L. '' Tip'' Young. He died March 22, 1976. Mrs. Young had lived in Mount Vernon since 1982, having moved there from Smethport. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Claire CARPENTER, who died Jan. 10, 1985. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Emlenton Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Soltis, church pastor, officiating. The Christopher M. Hile Funeral Home in Emlenton is in charge of arrangements.
