Edward L. Eppinger, 82, of Maryville, Tenn., died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Asbury Acres Health Care facility in Maryville. Mr. Eppinger was formerly employed by PennDOT in Franklin. Born Oct. 11, 1917, in New Castle, he was a son of Lester S. and Mildred MORGAN Eppinger. On Aug. 23, 1938, he married Lottie MITCHELL, who survives. Mr. Eppinger owned and operated two service stations in New Castle and Titusville, Fla. He also was employed by PennDOT as a maintenance supervisor of heavy equipment in seven counties. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the 70th Tank Battalion in Germany, from May 22, 1945 until July 14, 1946. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald L. Eppinger of Maryville; and two grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grand son, Jeffrey L. Eppinger. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Memorial Home in New Castle. A blessing service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Victor J. Molka, Jr., pastor of the Mary Mother of Hope parish, officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in New Castle. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Church in New Castle or the charity of one's choice.
Mary J. Magness, 96, formerly of Clarion RD 2, a resident of Clarview Nursing Center in Sligo, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at the Clarview Nursing Center in Sligo. Born Oct. 20, 1903 in New Bethlehem, she was a daughter of William and Floda BOWERSOCK SWARTZFAGER. She was married to Merle E. Magness who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1976. Mrs. Magness retired as a cook from the Clarion High School cafeteria. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Clarion and of the Grandmother's Club. Mrs. Magness enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. She is survived by a son, Dean E. Magness of Clarion RD 1; two daughters, Betty HAYES of Los Croaus, N.M. and Thelma CAMPBELL of Costa Mesa, Calif.; one sister, Helen CHAMPION of New Bethlehem; numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grand children. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois MILLIRON; and five brothers, Carl, Harry, Don, Gene and Art Swartzfager. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Goble Funeral Home in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Houben officiating. Interment will follow in the Clarion Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Geneva K. McWilliams, 97, a resident of the Presbyterian Home in Oil City, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at the Presbyterian Home. Born Oct. 29, 1902, in Clymer, N.Y., she was a daughter of John J. and Ada CROSCUTT LEGTERS. She was married to Joseph C. McWilliams, and he preceded her in death in 1982. Mrs. McWilliams was a member of Tionesta Presbyterian Church. She was district manager for Highlights Magazine. Mrs. McWilliams is survived by one daughter, Joan C. TAFT of Tionesta; one surrogate daughter, Susan EVERLY of Tionesta; and seven grandchildren, Karen WEBER of Orlando, Fla., Eric JOHNSON of North Carolina, Jennifer McCLEARY of Oklahoma, Curtis Johnson of Batavia, N.Y., Robin Taft of Cobleskill, N.Y., Richard Taft of Slippery Rock and Cindy FAVREAU of Titusville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey Johnson; and a sister, Henrietta PIERCE. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Tionesta Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dennis Ledebur officiating. Memorials can be made to Tionesta Presbyterian Church or the Oil City Presbyterian Home. The Goble Funeral Home of Clarion is in charge of arrangements.
Bud Shoup, 81, formerly of Franklin, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at his residence in Port Charlotte, Fla.
