Maxine Ruth Chapman, 79, of Spruce Street, Strattanville, died unexpectedly at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at her residence. Born Sept. 28, 1920, in Pugh Station, Limestone Township, Clarion County, she was a daughter of William and Ruth SONGER CLINGER. Mrs. Chapman retired in 1985 as a nurse's aide from the former Clarion Care Center, now Beverly Healthcare-Clarion. She attended the Strattanville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Chapman was married Feb. 4, 1940 to Wayne Chapman, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Thomas W. Chapman of Houston, Texas, Michael W. Chapman of Strattanville and Daniel A. Chapman of Shippenvile RD 1; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Jean MYERS of Clarion RD 1 and Donna BECKWITH of Frogtown. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Darlene Chapman; and two brothers, Ronald Clinger and William "Sam" Clinger. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Williamson, the Rev. Daniel Lawrence and the Rev. Laura Gross, pastor of the Strattanville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Strattanville Community Centenial Cemetery.
Verda Wroblewski, 81, a resident of the Oil City Presbyterian Home, formerly of the Luther Place in Oil City, died at noon Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, in the Presbyterian Home. Born Aug. 17, 1918, in Franklin, she was a daughter of Clyde and Esther NELLIS NELSON. Mrs. Worblewski was employed as a licensed practical nouse in Dunkirk, N.Y. She was married to Frankl Wroblewki, who preceded her in death. Surviving are four grandchildren, Douglas STANTON and his wife, Darla, of Oil City, Michael Stanton and his wife, Rebecca, of Florida, Dennis PHILLIPS and his wife, Linda, of Michigan and Daniel Phillips of Franklin. She also is survived by five great-grandchildren, Nichole Stanton of Oil City, Tiffany Stanton, Jenna Stanton and Michel Stanton, all of Florida, and Sydney Phillips of Michigan. Also surviving is a very special friend, Mildred "Millie" Dimmer of Dunkirk, N.Y. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Worblewski was preceded in death by a son, Delbert Stanton; and a great-grandson, Christopher Stanton, who died at birth. Mrs. Wroblewski donated her body to science. A private memorial service for family members will be held at a later date.
Betty A. Nelson, 74, of 1002 Buffalo St., Franklin, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 6, 1999, at her residence. Born Sept. 8, 1925, in Franklin, she was a daughter of Martin and Edna MILLER ANDERSON. She was a 1943 graduae of Rocky Grove High School. Mrs. Nelson was employed for 12 years at Penelec in Franklin and worked for 27 years in data processing at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co., retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Meadville. Mrs. Nelson served on the board of directors of Northwestern Pennsylvania American Civil Liberties Union; was a charter member of Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter No. 40 of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State; was a past president of the Rocky Grove Business and Professional Women's Club; and was a past grand regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She also was a volunteer for the Literacy Council. Mrs. Nelson was married May 23, 1953, to Erwin "Ed" Nelson, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Morris "Mick" Nelson, and a daughter, Cynthia WEAVER, both of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Erica Nelson and Paul Nelson of Franklin and San Antonio, Texas, and Emily Nelson, Daniel BAKER, Soctt Weaver, Carrie Weaver and Jason Weaver, all of Franklin; and a stepgrandson, Cody PRAHL of Oil City. She also is survived by a brother, Harold E. Anderson of Van Nys, Calif.; a sister, Ida M. Anderson of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth WHITE. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Huff Chapel, Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Kate Walker, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Meadville, officiating. Joseph L. Worden, 79, of 726 Elk St., Franklin, died at 8:27 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin.
