Dr. Paul Louis Griffith, 65, of Tintown, Sligo RD 1, died of complications from cancer at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Dr. Griffith was a well-known Clarion physician for the last 35 years. Born April 12, 1934, in Moundsville, W.Va., he was a son of the late Paul Edwin Griffith and Martha KEYSER Griffith. On Nov. 13, 1954, he married the former Betty STARCHER in Fort Knox, Ky., and she survives. An Army verteran, Dr. Griffith served in Germany from 1954 through 1956. After his discharge from the Army, he attended Marietta College in Ohio and graduated in 1962 from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. Dr. Griffith completed his internship at Bashline Hospital in Grove City, and practiced medicine for a brief period in Emlenton before moving to Clarion. He joined the Clarion practice of the late Dr. William Ketner in February 1964. He went into private practice in 1968. Dr. Griffith's office was locaed at 713 Wood St., Clarion, for more than 20 years leading up to his retirement last January. He was a member of the Clarin Amerian Legion post, Clarion Area Chamber of Business and Industry, American Osteopathic Associatin, and American Contract Bridge League. An avid sportsman, Dr. Griffith enjoyed hunting and fishing. He made numerous fishing trips with his friends to Canada, Alaska, Michigan and other areas. His most recent trip was in August to Canada. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with his wife and family. The couple visited Australia, Europe, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Iceland and the Cayman Islands. Since 1986, Dr. and Mrs. Griffith have hosted an annual family vacation with their children and grandchildren at various eastern resort communities. Dr. Griffith attended Leatherwood Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife; three children and their spouses, Carol Griffith and Peter RASMUSSEN of Columbus, Ohio, Randall and Rebecca Griffith of 309 Hone Ave., Oil City, and Sandra "Cee" and Berry BROOK of Douglasville, Ga.; four granddaughters, Erica and Colleen Griffith, Nadilee Brook and Piper Rasmussen; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dr. Griffith was preceded in death by a brother, Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Donald Griffith, who died in a plance crash in 1980, and an infant nephew, Terrance L. Grifith. There will be no visitation. Dr. Griffith requested that his remains be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Pastor Gerald Davis of Leatherwood Presbyterian Church will officiate. The family suggest flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarion Hospital and Leatherwood Presbyterian Church.
Margaret C. Hindman, 95, of Emlenton RD 2, Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, in Buchanan Commons, Grove City. Born Dec. 30, 1903, in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, she was a daughter of William G. and Minnie MARSHALL COULTER. Mrs. Hindman was the oldest member of the Scrubgrass Stone Church at Emlenton RD 3. She belonged to the Clara Coulter Bible Class and the Quilting Society of the church. She also was a memer of the Emlenton Area Over 55 Club. Mrs. Hindman was a homemaker. She was married in Greenville July 10, 1926, to Charles W. Hindman, who died Aug. 8, 1996. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. and Susan Hindman of Emlenton; a daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Eugene LONG of Emlenton; a daughter-in-law, Mr. Jeanne Hindman of Emlenton; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hindman was preceded in death by a son, William Hindman; an infant daughter, a great-grandchild, two brothers and two sisters. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Christopher M. Hile Funeral Home, Emlenton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Scrubgrass Stone Church at Emlenton RD 3 with the Rev. Ashley Shook, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Nola L. Summerville, 95, of Tionesta, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born June 15, 1904, in Clarion, she was a daughter of Henry B. "Hal" and Edna FAGLEY PORT. Mrs. Summerville was a member of Tionesta Presbyterian Church She was married to William "Craig" Summerville, who died in 1985. Surviving are a sister, Betty P. SPENCE of Tionesta; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Summerville was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Port and Samuel Port. The Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta is in charge of arrangements. Visitation and funeral services will be private. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Craig W. Mary M. Ziegler, 63, of Floral City, Fla., formerly of Marble, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at her residence following a longthy illness. Born Nov. 5, 1935, in Curllsville, she was a daughter of Irvin W. and Hazel M. DARR SMAIL. Mrs. Ziegler was a member of the Floral City United Methodist Church. While a resident of Marble, she was a member of the Pine City United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed camping, playing cards and reading. Mrs. Ziegler was married April 21, 1956, to Alber Ziegler, who survives, She and her husband raised several foster children while living in Marble. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three sons, Charlie Ziegler and his wife, Cindy, of Shippenville, Timothy Ziegler and his wife, Karen, of San Antonio, Texas, and Jamie Ziegler of Floral City, Fla.; three daughters and their husbands, Tammy and Lawrence BEICHNER of Kossuth, Bobbi and James WOLFGONG of Shippenville RD 1 and Brenda and Joseph MONTANA of Lucinda; and five grandchildren, Heather and Joseph Beichner, Christopher and Layci Ziegler and Christopher Wolfgong. She also is survived by a sister, Elizabeth ADAMS of Floral City, Fla.; and two brothers, Hubert Smail of Floral City, Fla., and Tom Smail of Corsica. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ziegler was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold Smail, Irvin W. Smail Jr., David Smail, Albert Smail and James Smail; and a sister, Isabell BEST. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. James Bartholonew, pastor of the Pine City United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Joe Puleo, former pastor of the Manor United Methodist Church, officiating. Arthur H. "Bud" Whitman, 58, of 116 Front St., Franklin, an expediter at Joy Manufacturing, died at 3:07 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin.
Robert W. Quinn, 83, of Sugarcreek Road, Franklin Star Route, died suddenly early Monday morning, Oct. 4, 1999, in his home. Born Aug. 29, 1916, in Cochranton, he was a son of Harry and Sarah Elizabeth BLACK Quinn. He was a graduate of Cochranton Hight School. Mr. Quinn served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was employed for more than 40 years as a foreman at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. While employed there, he served as the secretary-treasurer of the local machinist union. Mr. Quinn was a member of the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. Quarter Cenury Club. He was well-known in the area as a notary public from 1965 to the present. Mr. Quinn served on the board of directors of the Franklin Cemetery. He attended the Rock Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mr. Quinn was married Jan 11, 1942, to the former Bonnie J. MILLER, who died Nov. 28, 1987. Surviving are a son and his wife, Michael A. and Linda M. Quinn of Hannaville; two granddaughters, Annette Michele "Micci" Quinn of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Kenneth (Jennifer M.) SMITH of Hardin, Mont. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Quinn was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Renee Quinn; and two sisters, Dorothy Quinn HOVIS and Josephine Quinn SIPE. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Huff Chapel, Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. James A. RUTH L. ROSENBERRY Ruth L. Rosenberry, 78, of 881 Scott Rd., Riverdale, Ga., died Sept. 15, 1999 at the Atlanta Medical Center. Born July 15, 1921, she was a daughter of Charles and Clare KNOLL. She resided in Fairview and RD 2, Emlenton, Pa. prior to living the past 38 years in Ga. as a homemaker. She was married to William "Bill" Rosenberry on May 27, 1950, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Kay VAN WIE, Evelyn TRISCH of Stockridge, Ga., Cheryl DeLOACH of Danielsville, Ga.; a son, Randy Rosenberry of Reagan, Tn.; three sisters, Helen HILDERBRAND, Janet HOVIS, Geraldine KIFER; one brother, Alvin Knoll; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rosenberry was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held September 18, 1999 from the Riverdale Presbyterian Church. Officiating were Rev. William Sattenwhile and Rev. Steve Austin. Interment followed at College Park Cemetery.
Josephine Davis, 98, of Parker, died Friday morning, Sept. 24, 1999, at Autumn Grove Care Center in Harrisville. Born on the family homestead in Parker Township on Feb. 27, 1901, she was the daughter of William and Maude (SLAUGHENHAUPT) PIPHER. She was a member of the Parker Presbyterian Church and the Women's Circle of the church. Mrs. Davis was a 1919 graduate of Clarion Normal School and had taught in the Parker, East Brady and Butler school districts. She is survived by two sons, William Davis of Wayne, Pa., and Robert Davis of Slippery Rock RD 4; two step-grandsons; two step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Her husband, Clare T. Davis, whom she married Oct. 15, 1927, died April 9, 1966. A brother also preceded her in death. Friends were received at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 1999 at the funeral home. Burial was at the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery.
