Meredith Smith, 89, formerly of 24 Pennell St., Franklin, died at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 1999, in The Caring Place, Franklin. Born Nov. 27, 1909 in Scrubgrass Township, she was a daughter of Royal A. and Nancy Eliza KINGSLEY WRIGHT. She worked in Wyoming as a secretary before meeting W. Robert Smith, whom she married July 4, 1936. He preceded her in death March 24, 1991. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a homemaker. Surviving are a son and his wife, Kenneth R. and Judy Smith of Seneca; and three grandchildren, Brian Smith of Toledo, Ohio, and Shana and Kelly Smith of Seneca. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by four sisters, Geraldine PERRY, Lucille GUIGON, Gladys GIBBS and Dorothy Loree MAYNES. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark McCalla, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church Library Fund.

Albert J. Baughman, 94, of Shippenville, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville. Born Feb. 23, 1905, in Millerstown, Elk Township, he was a son of Henry C. and Clotilda SIEGEL Baughman. Mr. Baughman, along with his first wife, owned and operated Baughman's Store in Shippenville for many years. He was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg. Mr. Baughman was a charter member of the original Shippenville Fire Co. He first was married May 27, 1930, to Florence SCHILL, who died May 27, 1955. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John A. "Jack" and Marlys Baughman of Knox RD 2; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah "Sally" and Lee HOCKMAN of Shippenville; five grandchildren, Linda DUFFEE, Cheryl RODGERS, Leesa KNIGHT, Anthony Hockman and Timothy Hockman; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. On Oct. 21, 1968, he married Edith WOLBERT LANDER, who died Sept. 9, 1987. Surviving are two stepsons and their wives, James and Rose Mary Lander of Erie and David and Carolyn Lander of Lucinda; a stepdaughter and her husband, Judity and Walter GLAZEWSKI of Humble, Texas; and seven stepgrandchildren. In addition to his parents and wives, Mr. Baughman was preceded in death by a sister, Helen HARGENRADER, and a brother, Charles H. Baughman. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Faller Funeral Home, Fryburg. Parish vigil services will be held at 3:45 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Michael Church, Fryburg, with the Rev. William Driscoll, pastor, as the presider. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. The Family suggests memorials be made to St. Michael Church Restoration Fund or to the Clarion-Forest VNA.

Joseph E. Hogan, 83, of Aurora, Colo., formerly of Meadville and a retired stockbroker in Oil City, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999. He was born April 22, 1916, in Gloucester, Mass. Mr. Hogan received his degree in economics from St. John University in New York. He served in the U.S. Army in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hogan retired from Prudential Bache Securities in Oil City after 30 years as a stockbroker. His interests included gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. Mr. Hogan was married Jan. 7, 1950, to Grace NAUMANN of Pittsburgh. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Hogan of Los Altos, Calif., and Patrick Hogan of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Michele of Westminster, Colo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Sept. 20, in St. Michael Church in Aurora, Colo. Interment was in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo., where he received full military honors. Gwen Haggerty of Pahrump, Nev., daughter of the late William and Emily ZINZ SMITH of Franklin, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999.

Melvin Allen, 59, of 26492 Anselmo, Mission Viejo, Calif., formerly of Rocky Grove, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at his residence.

Robert E. Ivell, 61, of Harrisville RD 1, father of Mrs. Gordon (Sharon) BOWERS of Clintonville and brother of James E. Ivell of Harrisville RD 1, died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at his home following a sudden illness.

Aloysius G. "Sonny" Gander, 56, of 106 Gander Lane, Stoneboro, who was well-known in the area for the custom combine work he did for other farmers, died instantly Tuesday evening, Sept. 28, 1999, when he fell from the top of a 60-foot silo on the family farm.

Paul A. Spudic Sr., 80, of Port Monmouth, N.J., brother of Knox resident Rose SEIGWORTH, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J.
