Gertrude May Lawson Owens Cannizzaro, 74, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of the Sugarcreek area, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, in Beth Israel Medical Center in Brookly, N.Y. Mrs. Cannizzaro had lived for many years in the New Jersey-New York area. Born May 2, 1925, In Franklin, she was a daughter of Clarence G. and Freda WOODS Lawson. Mrs. Cannizzaro attended Rocky Grove schools. She did private duty nursing in Ohio, New Jersey and New York for approximately 30 years before she was faced with ill health. Mrs. Cannizzaro enjoyed bingo, magic, and country and western music, and she and a former husband did several stage shows involving magic in Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Barbara) WHITTEN of Franklin; a son and his wife, Robert and Alice OWENS of Franklin; six grandchildren, Michael Owens, Mrs. Ron (Melissa) BIERHMAN, Mrs. Douglas (Ladona) STROUSE, Tina KARNS, James Whitten and Mrs. Charles (Chris) HELLEM; 17 great-grandchildren; and several stepchildren and step-grandchildren in the New York area. She also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) STONE of Tionesta; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cannizzaro was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy LAWSON, Mrs. Clifford (Elsie) BAKER and Mrs. Mac (Blanche) WRIGHT; a grandson, Robert M. Owens; and a stepgrandson, Andrew Strouse. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in Calvary Baptist Church, 100 E. Atlantic Ave., Franklin, with the Rev. Elizabeth Jameison, pastor, officiating.
