Gertrude Crompton, 79, of Allison Park, Hampton Township, Allegheny Count, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in Butler Memorial Hospital. Born June 21, 1920, in Flatsoods, Fayette County, she was a daughter of George and Blanche KNIGHT KIRKPATRICK. Mrs. Crompton was a former member and treasurer of North Hampton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are five daughters, Anna GERACI of Florida, Eleanor LEWIS of Monroeville, Joan JOHNSON of Shaler, Kathy GILLESPIE of Butler and Judy KASZA of Rosss Township; three sons, James Crompton of Connecticut, Richard Crompton of Ross Township and John Crompton of Callensburg; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by four sisters, Jean WELSH of Florida, Laura BRZOSKA of Kennerdell, Lala McDEAVITT of Mars and Janet STAWECKI of Hampton; and a brother, Frank Kirkpatrick of Etna. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crompton was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Kirkpatrick. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mount Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Garden in Indiana Township.

Daniel J. Dowling, 53, of 421 N. Dranke St., Titusville, died at 9:39 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in the Titusville Area Hospital shortly after his arrival there. Born Sept. 22, 1945, in Titusville, he was a son of Ruth Phillips BRADY and the late Thomas D. Dowling. Mr. Dowling was a 1964 graduate of Fredonia, N.Y. Hight School. Following graduation, he worked as an insurance agent in New York. He came to Titusville in 1968 and became employed by Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. In 1972, he took over the family business, the Dowling Hotel, until its closing in the mid-1990s. Mr. Dowling also was employed by B.S.I. form 1987 to 1988 at which time he retired due to ill health. He was a member of St. Titus Church, the Titusville Lions Club where he served as Tail Twister, the Titusville B.P.O. Elks No. 264 and the Titusville Area Hospital Auxiliary. He was a former member of the Titusville Country Club. Mr. Dowling enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, golfing, darts and his grandchildren. He was married in Titusville Dec. 23, 1995, to Carol ADAMOWICZ, who survives. Also surviving are his mother of Brocton, N.Y.; a son, Daniel Bowling Jr. of Longwood, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Evan (Lisa) HALL of Boston, Mass., and Brandi Dowling and Kara Dowling, both of Titusville; a stepson, Chad SUNDOL of Mechanicsburg; a stepdaughter, Pam Sundol of Mechanicsburg; and four grandchildren, Brittany Sundol of Mechanicsburg and Tori PRENATT, Thayer Sundol and Kelsee Dowling, all of Titusville. He also is survived by two brothers, Richard J. Dowling of Titusville and Darryl T. Dowling of Huntingdon, W.Va.; a sister, Mrs. Donna POPIESKI of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Dowling was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Dawn THOMPSON. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. A vigil service will be held at 8:45 p.m. today in the funeral home with Sister Mary Edith in charge. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Titus Church with the Rev. John Detisch, pastor, as the presider. Interment will be in St. Catharine Cemetery, Titusville. Geraldine Louise "Gerry" Wurster, 69, of 1025 W. Third St., died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in The Caring Place, Franklin, where she had resided since July 22. Born Nov. 21, 1929, in Venus, she was a daughter of Floyd W. and Cora E. WAGNER Wurster. Miss Wurster was a 1948 graduate of Shippenville High School. She worked at Butiste's Restaurant, was head cashier at Loblaws and affiliated companies in Oil City and Clarion and retired in 1993 from Sammon's Communications. Surviving are a brother and his wife, Gale and Pam Wurster of Sharon; a siser-in-law, Mildred Wurster of Oil City; two nieces, Julie A. Wurster of Irvine, Calif., and Jami Wurster of Oil City; and three nephews, Jay Wurster and Jerry Wurster, both of Oil City, and Jeffrey A. Wurster of Newport Beach, Calif. In addition to her parents, Miss Wurster was preceded in death by a brother, Junion Wurster. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Venus Cemetery. Margaet Helen Glass, 58, of Oil City RD 1, died at 11:26 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. Born Sept. 8, 1941, in Titusville, she was a daughter of Albert and Dorothy STROUP WILSON. She lived in the Titusville area until her marriage in 1960 and had since resided in the Oil City area. Mrs. Glass was employed by S.M.I. Corp. cleaning sevice for 17 years. She was an avid reader. Mrs. Glass was married Sept. 3, 1960, to James E. Glass, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Linda Glass, Mrs. George (Dorothy) STRUTHERS and Wanda Glass, all of Oil City, Sandra NIEDERRITER of Knox and Mrs. Kevin (Jamie) O'Neil of Emlenton; one son, James E. Glass Jr. of Oil City; and 11 grandchildren. She also is survived by four sisters, Julia MILLER of East Hickory, Christine HULINGS of Tidioute, Molly WILSON of Sandy Lake and Patricia CRAIG of Franklin; five brothers, Ted Wilson of Oil City, Albert Wilson Jr. of Titusville, Clyde Wilson of Franklin, Boyd Wilson of Tidioute and Tom Wilson of Plumer; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Glass was preceded in death by two infant brothers. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Hutchinson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary Temple, Oil City, with the Rev. Rudy Rimer, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Jamison Cornes Cemetery. Dorothy V. Boddorf, 80, of Jefferson Manor Health Center, Brookville RD 5, died there at 4:55 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999. Born July 28, 1919, in Ringold Township, Jefferson County, she was a daughter of Oran and Nellie Mae SHAFFER SNYDER. Mrs. Boddorf was a homemaker and was of the Protestant faith. She was married to Ray Boddorf, who died Nov. 19, 1977. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Victoria CHERRY of Kane RD 1; two grandchildren, Rich MILLER of Distant and Bridgette ASTI of St. Marys; and six great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Mary LINGENFELTER of Punxsutawney RD 4 and Bonnie McANINCH of Florida; and two brothers, Robert Snyder of Hubbard, Ohio, and Bernard Snyder of Clarion. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Boddorf was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn MINNICH; and three brothers, Wendel Snyder, Clarence Snyder and Jack Snyder. Mary Jane Mitchell, 77, of 717 Liberty St., Franklin, who, along with her husband, Glenn E. Mitchell, owned and operated Mitchell's Motel and Restaurant in Polk from 1960 to 1971, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Sugar Creek Station, Franklin RD 3.

Rose Marie Marshall, 73, of Oil City RD 1, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin after an extended illness. Born Jan 23, 1926, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Earl and Mabel WOOD MYERS. Mrs. Marshall was employed as a print setter by Quaker State Co. from 1973 until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the Genealogical Society and the Historical Society of Franklin and Oil City. Mrs. Marshall was married Aug. 3, 1944, to David Lloyd Marshall Sr., who died April 30, 1990, after being badly injured in the 1985 tornado. She and her late husband enjoyed researching family histories and doing volunteer work for both organizations. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Oil City. Surviving are two daughters and their husband, Cathy Ann and Jack R. LAMPERT and Vivian Elaine and Mark R. DAVIS, all of Oil City; one son and his wife, David Lloyd Marshall Jr. and Daphine Lynne of Oil City; five grandchildren, Melissa Rose SLAWSON of Cochranton, Michael Paul WESSELL of Franklin, Jennifer Lee Davis and Monica Elizabeth and Andrea Marie Marshall, all of Oil City; two step-grandchildren, Jack R. Lampert of Willington, N.C., and Rayleen L. Lampert of Franklin; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob R., Kassandra R. and Miranda Lea Wessell, all of Franklin, and Nathaniel David Slawson of Cochranton. She also is survived by three sisters, Florence JACKSON, Betty HOPWOOD and Laura YOUNG, all of Oil City; several nieces and nephews, all of Oil City; and two very close friends, James and Jean Henderson of Cooperstown. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by twin sons, David James and Donald Earl Marshall; two brothers, Earl James and Harry "Bud" Myers; and two sisters, Emily Vivian and Joyce Ann Myers. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Osenider Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ted Cole, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
