Sister Mary Louise Weaver, 81, of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Erie, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, in Villa Maria Motherhouse, Erie. Born Dec. 2, 1917, in Marble, she was a daughter of John and Caroline SCHILL Weaver. Sister Mary Louise graduated from Shippenville High School and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in September 1936. She taught at various schools in the Erie Catholic Diocese, the last being at St. Michael Grade School in Fryburg. She also taught during the summer months at Villa Maria College, Erie. Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Weaver of St. Mary's Home, Erie; two brothers, James Weaver of St. Mary's Home, Erie and John Weaver of Venus RD 1; and several nieces and nephews. In addition ot her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine SHAUGHNESSY of Oil City and Helen BECK of Bradford. Viewing will begin at 2:30 p.m. today in the Villa Maria Motherhouse, Erie. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Motherhouse Chapel, 5031 West Ridge Road, Erie.
Karen S. Powers, 41, of Parker RD 2, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home where she had been a resident since Jan. 4, 1999. Born Feb. 1, 1958, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Paul W. and Lois Ann SHELLHOUSE BLUM. Mrs. Powers was a 1976 graduate of West Forest High School, Tionesta, and an 1980 graduate of Penn State University where she earned a degree in agricultural education. She had been employed as a substitute teacher at the West Forest, Keystone, A-C Valley, Karns City and Moniteau school districts. Mrs. Powers previously had been employed with the Corps of Engineers as a park technician at Tionesta Dam. She also was a former EMT with the Tionesta and Parker ambulance services. She had been involved with the family business, Blum's General Merchandise and Appliance, operated by her parents in Tionesta. Mrs. Powers was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora, where she was past president and past assisting minister. She was married at her parents home in German Hill, Tionesta, Sept. 12, 1981, to William W. Powers, who survives. Also surviving are her parents of Tionesta; a brother and his wife, Jeffrey P. and Cindy Blum of Tionesta; two nieces; five nephews; and two aunts, Mrs. Lucille WEAVER and Mrs. Mary HALL. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. by the Rev. James Higgins, pastor, and the Rev. Cathy Mimms, pastor of Mount Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Tionesta. The family suggest memorials be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora, Pa. 16025; the Oil City Presbyterian Home, 10 Vo-Tech Drive, Oil City, Pa. 16301; or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Allegheny District Chapter, 1040 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219.
