Irvin F. Summerville, 66, of Shippenville RD 1, died at 2:34 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. Born June 7, 1933, in Rimersburg, he was a son of Frank and Myrtle BROTHERS Summerville. Mr. Summerville served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator. Mrs. Summerville enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading, movies and the outdoors. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Summerville was married Oct. 15, 1953, to Patricia JOHNSTON, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael Summerville and Richard "Rick" Summerville, both of Shippenville RD 1; a daughter and her husband, Beth Ann and Bruce Johnson of Marble Star Route; and eight grandchildren, Josh, Brandon, Corry, Tessa, Dyland and Dalton Summerville and Brady and Nathan Johnson. He also is survived by a brother, Thomas Summerville of Knox. In addition to his parents, Mr. Summerville was preceded in death by an infant sister. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the William N. Ruper Mortuary, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Porter, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Shippenville, officiating. Interment will be in the Cedarville Memorial Park, Strattanville. The family suggests memorials be made to the Shippenville-Elk Township Volunteer Ambulance Service at Shippenville.
Aliene Fye, 75, of Knox RD 3, died at 12:09 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, in the Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Sligo RD 1. Born Feb. 14, 1924, in Beaver Township, Clarion County, she was a daughter of Thomas O. and Iva C. BEISEL WILLIAMS. In her earlier years, Mrs. Fye had worked at the Purinton Pottery in Shippenville and at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. of Clarion. She was a member of the Mount Joy United Methodist Church at Knox RD 3 and was a former member of the Women's Society and the Cancer Society of the church. Mrs. Fye was a homemaker, loved flowers and enjoyed sitting on her porch watching the birds. She was married June 1, 1943, to Wilbert Fye, who died Dec. 24, 1998. Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Mary K. and Ronald DeLOE of Knox RD 3; two sons, Thomas E. Fye of Charleston, W.Va., and Randy Fye and his wife, Mary Ann, of Smiths, Ala.; three grandchildren, Corey Fye of Smiths, Ala., and James and Julie Fye of Canton, Ohio; and a great-grandson of Canton, Ohio. She also is survived by a sister, Leanore KAHLE of Clarion RD 1. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the William N. Ruper Mortuary in Knox and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Mount Joy United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Charles Jack, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Richard Eddinger. Interment will be in Mount Joy Church Cemetery.
Norman A. Rodgers, 79, of Rochester, N.Y., formerly of Oil City, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, in Rochester General Hospital. Born July 10, 1920, in Oil City, he was a son of Wilbur and Anna McCALMORT Rodgers. He was an Army veteran of World War II, entering the Army in 1941 with the National Guard from Oil City. Mr. Rodgers was retired from Genesee Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Rochester and was a member and past president of the Holy Name of Jesus Society of the church. Mr. Rodgers also was a member of the Pulaski Post No. 782 of the American Legion in Rochester. Surviving are his wife, Hattie; two sons and their wives, Thomas and Jan Rodgers of Solon, Ohio, and Andrew and Sue Rodgers of Rockingham, Vt.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Virginia LUCAS of Northfield, Ohio; a brother and his wife, David and Genevieve Rodgers of Rochester, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today in St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester. Eleanore E. Wegner, 81, of Buchanan Commons Genesis Elder Care Home, Grove City, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Buchanan Commons. Mrs. Wegner formerly lived in Tarentum, Sarver, Harrisville and Corsica. Born July 17, 1918, in Allegheny County, she was a daughter of Henry and Hilda BRUCE. Mrs. Wegner was a member of Allegheny Valley Baptist Church in Natrona Heights and later was a member of Zion Methodist Church in Sarver. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Wegner was married Dec. 13, 1937, to Charles E. Wegner Sr., who died June 2, 1999. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) ANDERSON of West Sunbury; a son, Charles E. Wegner Jr. of Harrisville; and two grandson, Charles E. Wegner III and Robert S. Wegner, both of Harrisville. She also is survived by three brothers, Henry Bruce of Sarver, Robert Bruce of Natrona Heights of Kenneth Bruce of Spring Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be held from noon to the time of services at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion. The Rev. James Deitrich and the Rev. Bill Saxman will officiate. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or to the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind.
Granville G. Stitt, 89, of Cherry Run, Rimersburg RD 2, died at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at his residence. Born July 9, 1910, in Toby Township, Clarion County, he was a son of Grant and Alice CORBETT Stitt. Mr. Stitt worked in the coal mines of southern Clarion County for 15 years. He retired in 1972 after working many years for Pullman Standard in Butler. He was a member of the Cherry Run United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Stitt was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening. He was married Dec. 20, 1932, to the former Mabel I. MURRAY, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Jean BIGLEY of New Middletown, Ohio, Mrs. William (Geraldine) UNGER of McDonald, Ohio, and Mrs. Frank (Mary) SMITH of Shippenville; four sons, Robert Stitt and his wife, Kathy of Huey, Ray Stitt and his wife, Ethel, of Rimersburg RD 2, Dennis Stitt of Utica, Ohio, and Gerald Stitt and his wife, Gwen, of Parker RD 1; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stitt was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Russell, Ralph and Merle Stitt; one sister, Nellie MYERS; one grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Kline Funeral Home, J. Robert Varner, director, in Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Cherry Run United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bessie Maihle, pastor, officiating. Tayler Allen Smith, infant son of James D. and Marcia Smith of Clarion, was stillborn at 5:02 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Tyler J. Smith at home; paternal grandparents, John and Janice Smith of Cranberry RD 1; and many aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl and Ruth GLINKERMAN. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today in St. Mark Cemetery, Kossuth. The Rev. Richard Jones, pastor of Faith Church of the Nazarene near Kossuth, will officiate. Arrangements are in charge of the the David C. McEntire Funeral Home in Knox.
