Mabel W. Anderson, 86, of 104 E. Sixth St., died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at her residence. Born April 28, 1913, in Oil City, she was a daughter of James A. and Rose E. CROSS BUCK. Mrs. Anderson was employed by the former Tait's Card Shop. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City. Mrs. Anderson was married June 16, 1934, to Kenneth R. Anderson, who died May 28, 1976. Surviving are two children and their spouses, Carole and Bill YEAGER and Gerald L. and Carol Anderson, all of Oil City; 11 grandchildren, Terry RHODES of San Jose, Calif., Randall Rhodes, Jeffrey Rhodes and Kevin Rhodes, all of Reno, Thomas Rhodes, Gregory Rhodes, Cinda Rhodes and Pamela RUTH, all of Seneca, Elizabeth Rhodes of Franklin, and Jodi Anderson and Cori Anderson, both of Oil City; nine great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna MacPHERSON, Emily REED and Hazel ALLEBAUGH; and three brothers, Donald Buck, Eugene Buck and James Buck. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph E. Filer IV, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville. The family suggests memorials be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County, the Clarion-Foest Visiting Nurses Association Hospice or to the First Presbyterian Church.

Beatrice M. "Beezie" Weidle, 79, of Harrisburg, a former Oil City resident, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, in Mount Saint Benedict Infirmary, Erie, after an extended illness. She had been a resident of the Erie facility since early May. Born May 5, 1920, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth STUBLER Weidle. She was a 1939 graduate of St. Joseph High School and moved to Harrisburg, where she worked five years for the U.S. Treasury Department. Miss Weidle then attended photography school in New York, and upon graduation she returned to Harrisburg to begin a 30-year career with Olan Mills as a portrait photographer. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Harrisburg. Miss Weidle enjoyed photography as a hobby along with flower and vegetable gardening. Surviving are five sisters, Dr. Mary Weidle LOVOFF and her husband, Adolph, of Lakewood, Ohio, Mrs. Norman (Patricia) FESENMYER of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Sister M. Andrea Weidle, O.S.B., of Erie, Mrs. Edward (Joan) MOTT of Indiana, Pa., and Mrs. Margaret MATSON of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, Miss Weidle was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, William, James and Charles Weidle; and two aunts, Beatrice ANDERTON COLLINS and Agnes STUBLER. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. John W. Swoger, pastor, as the presider. The family will receive friends in the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment of the cremains will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Betty Rhoades Double Best, 69, of Ninevah, Knox RD 1, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at her residence following an illness. Born July 6, 1930, in Oil City she was a daughter of Lawrence and Viola STROTMAN HOGUE. Mrs. Best had worked at Wolf's Head Refining in Oil City, The Children's Shop in Clarion, Linnon's Foodland in Mariasville and at Bud Smth's Store in Ninevah. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and belonged to the Missionary Society. Mrs. Best had been vice president of the Starr Cemetery Association. She was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening, music, cooking, baking and especially children. She was known to many children in Ninevah as "Grandma Betty" and her cookie jar was never empty. Mrs. Best first was married Jan. 30, 1951, to Carl D. Rhoades, who died April 27, 1981. She next was married Oct. 8, 1983 to Keith Double, who died Feb. 26, 1985. She last was married April 25, 1987, to Irvin Best, who died Aug. 30, 1992. Surviving are a son, Randy Rhoades of Knox RD 1; two sisters, Shirley SHOWMAN of North Carolina and Joyce CRUM of Virginia; six brothers, Lawrence H. Hogue of Oil City, Kenneth Hogue of Shippenville RD 1, Raymond Hogue of Knox RD 1, Paul W. Hogue of Pleasantville, Dick Hogue of Ford City and Dale Hogue of Maryland; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Best was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathryn Hogue, Opal Hogue and Helen MITCHELL; and a brother, Robert Hogue. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, Knox. Visitation also will be held from noon until the time of services at 1 p.m. Friday in Grace Evangelical Congregational Church at Ninevah. The Rev. Rick Osberg, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Maurice Friedlund, former pastor of the Clarion Evangelical Congregational Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Starr Cemetery at Knox RD 1. Edward Albert, 88, of Titusville RD 5, died at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at his residence. Born June 29, 1911, in Somerville, Mass., he was a son of Isadore and Edith KESHEN Albert. Mr. Albert was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a registered nurse who worked at the Metropolitan State Hospital in Waltham, Mass. Mr. Albert was married March 5, 1949, to the former Ila Ruth MILLER, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Arnold Marc Albert of Titusville; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Janice Albert) NISSENBAUM of Belmont, Mass., and Denise Lea Albert of Kingston, N.H.; and three grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Ruth SHIFF of Newton, Mass. In addition to his parents, Mr. Albert was preceded in death by a brother, Manis Albert. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Morrison Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Titusville Jewish Cemetery. The family suggest memorials be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County.

William Eugene Hawks Jr., 52, of Liberty Street, Franklin, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, as the result of a drowning accident in Ashtabula, Ohio. Born May 5, 1947, in Oil City, he was a son of William Eugene and Helen WILLIAMS Hawks. He was a 1965 graduate of Oil City High School and studied engineering at Tri-State College in Indiana. Mr. Hawks had been employed as an engineer at PennDOT since 1967 and currently held the position of district plans engineer. He was a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers. He was a member of the Frankline Elks Lodge. Mrs. Hawks enjoyed his family and outdoor activities including boating, cycling, golf, hunting and fishing. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Kelly Lee) MALEK III of Oil City and Anne Kathleen Hawks of Franklin; three sons, Christopher Eugene Hawks of Lancaster, Ohio, and Dustin Kenneth Hawks and Darren William Hawks, both of Franklin; and a grandson, Tanner Jacob Malek of Oil City. He also is survived by his mother, Mrs. William (Helen) Hawks of Oil City; and a sister, Mrs. Anthony (Sandra) LANGE of Orlando, Fla. Mr. Hawks was preeded in death by his father. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lamey Cemetery

Barbara M. Bolmer, 84, of 7 Chestnut St., Corry, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, in Corry Manor Nursing Home. Born April 7, 1915, in Shippenville, she was a daughter of W. C. and Agnes MITCHELL MacDONALD. Mrs. Bolmer was raised and educated in the Hampson Station area and was a graduate of Kossuth High School. She then attended Clarion State Normal School. As a young woman she worked for 10 years at J.C. Penney Co. in Oil City. Mrs. Bolmer then moved to Hubbard, Ohio, and Rock Grove before moving to Corry in the early 1960s. She was a memberof St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Corry and was a member of of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Mrs. Bolmer enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. She was married in Hampton Station on May 9, 1947, to Edmund T. Bolmer, who survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, Thomas C. and Jill Bolmer of Columbus, Pa.; a sister, Ioan MOULIN of Knox; a brother, Carl W. MacDonald of Flemington, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 E. John J. Szympruch, 81, of 1628 Linwood Ave., Erie, formersly of Oil City, a former employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central and Conrail, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, in the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Franklin H. Davis, 65, of 724 W. Spring St., Titusville, an employee of the W. T. Grant Co. for 23 years at various locations, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at his residence.
