Connie Sue Wade, 40, of 44 Halyday St., Oil City, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 19999, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin RD 3. Born July 15, 1959, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Avalonna GOLD Wade and the late Raymond M. Wade Jr. Ms. Wade was raised in Erie. She was a member of the Oil City VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her mother of Henderson, N.C.; three sons, James K. SEIPPEL and Matthew Wade, both at home, and Max DAWSON of Erie; and a daughter, Maegen R. Seippel at home. She also is survived by two brothers, Michael D. Wade of Oil City and Scott A. Wade of Erie; her maternal grandmother, Ethel M. Gold of Oil City; her paternal grandmother, Marie E. Wade of Seneca; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. Services will be conducted at the conveniecnce of the family.
Leslie Paul Steele Jr., 77, of Distant, died Sunday evening, Aug. 29, 1999, in the Harper House at Summerville. Born May 30, 1922, in Toby Township, he was a son of Mary KELLER STOOPS. Mr. Steele was a World War II veteran,serving in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1875 from Reddinger Coal Co. Mr. Steele was married Oct. 23, 1945, to Monaelle HOPPER, who died July 4, 1998. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Richard and Rachel Steele and George "Butch" and Carol Steele, all of Distant; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Rud\by) NOLF of Meadville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stopgrandchildren. In addition to his mother and wife, Mr. Steele was preceded in death by a son, Harold "Louie" Steele; and a brother, George Keller. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev Jerry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Churchville Cemetery, Curllsville, Clarion County.
Arthur L. Shirey, 94, of Rimersburg RD 2, died at 12:14 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. Born Feb. 27, 1905, in Toby Township, Clarion County, he was a son of Benton and Maggie HENRY Shirey. Mr. Shirey was a coal miner and had been employed by several area Clarion County mines for 25 years. He retired from Hull Construction Co., Butler, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Shirey was a lifelong member of the Rimersburg Presyterian Church. He had served 18 years as a township supervisor for Madison Township in Clarion County. Mr. Shirey was married for 72 years to the former Viola G. CLARK, who survives. They were married Nov. 12, 1926, in New Cumberland, W. Va. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Mrs. Regis H. (Dawn L.) McCLAINE of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one grandson, Neal N. McClaine of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shirey was preceded in death by three brothers, Woods Shirey, Clifford Shirey and Marvin Shirey; and three sisters, Mrs. Blanche DELP, Mrs. Leota KELLY and Mrs. Bertha KUHNS. Mae C. Brown, 91, formerly of 1215 Chestnut St., Franklin, died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabiliatation Center at Sligo D 1. Born April 20, 1908, at Emlenton RD 2, she was a daughter of Hosea Lucester and Laura Etta HOFFMAN WELTON. Mrs. Brown retired in 1970 from the laundry department at Polk Center. She was a member of Polk United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brown was married to Weldon M. Brown, who died Jan. 29, 1977. Surviving are a stepson, William H. Brown of Pleasantville; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Jack (Caroline) WINGER and Mrs. Frank (Darlene) WINGER, both of South Carolina, and Mrs. Dana (Cindy) HOPKINS of Sumpter, S.C.; and 11 stepgrandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, William K. Welton of Grove City; and three niceces, Maxine GILMORE and Shirley BLOM, both of Harrisville, and Bonnie TERWILLINGER of Parker. Sarah Joy Carnes, infant daughter of the Rev. Thomas M. and Susan L. TRAVERSA Carnes of Summerville RR 2, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two brother, Daniel Thomas Carnes and Matthew Timothy Carnes, both at home. Also surviving are maternal grandparents, Peter and Nancy Traversa of Antioch, Tenn.; maternal great-grandmother, Alice Traversa of Pompano Beach, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Ira and Sandra Carnes of Dunedin, Fla.; and numerous cousins. Harry M. Clouse, 94, of Rimer Hill, Armstrong County, died at 12:24 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabiliation Center at Sligo RD 1, where he had resided since Dec. 15, 1998. Prior to moving to Clarview, he had resided for several years at the Cherry Run Estates in Rimersburg. Born Sept. 20, 1904, in Rimer Hill, he was a son of Fred C. and Violet ANTHONY Clouse. He attended Rimer Hill School and was a farmer in the Rimer Hill area all of his life. Mr. Clouse had been employed at the Reesedale Brick Yard and at T.W. Phillips Gas Co. He was a township supervisor for Madison Township, Armstrong County, for a number of years. Mr. Clouse was an accomplished musician, playing the violin, piano, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. He was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are one brother, Charles Clouse of Tidal; and a number of cousins and other relatives.
