Mary Geist Dick, 100, of Church Street, Brookville, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at her residence. Born Aug. 18, 1899, in Brookville, she was a daughter of John and Louella HOPKINS Geist. Mrs. Dick was a member of the Brookville Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the Martha V. Carnrad Study Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Pinecrest County. Club. Mrs. Dick was a homemaker. She was married to Dr. Walter Dick, who died Feb. 4, 1951. Surviving are one son, Walter Dick Jr. of Brookville and Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Ann HUGHES of Evanston, Ill.; six grandchildren, Christopher Hughes of Sioux City, Iowa, Thomas Hughes of Louisville, Ky., Cheryl Hughes of Evanston, Ill., David Dick of Tallahassee, Fla., Steven Dick of Jupiter, Fla., and Mary Beth McCARTER of Kansas City, Mo.; and six great-grandchildren, Rachel Hughes, Ashley, Courtney and Shannon McCarter and Joshua and Caleb Dick. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dick was preceded in death by one grandson, John Russell Hughes Jr. The Goble Funeral Home of Brookville is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in the Brookville Cemetery with the Rev. Maynard Grunstra officiating. Interment will follow in the Brookville Cemetery. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Lois A. Shreffler Bennett, 89, formerly of Oil City, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at the home of her son in Malvern, Ohio. Born Nov. 20, 1909, in Kellettville, she was a daughter of James P. and Harriett McKENZIE SMITH. She first was married in 1924 to Ted Shreffler, who is deceased. She was married in 1946 to James A. Bennett, who also is deceased. Surviving are four sons and their wives, Joe and Joan Shreffler of Seneca, Ed and Carol Shreffler of Naples, Fla., Don and Pam Bennett of Malvern, Ohio, and Tom and Pat Bennett of Oil City; four daughters, Barbara J. BRAUN of Oil City, Connie SHAFFER of Lakeland, Fla., Avonelle ROBINSON and husband, Ed, of Clearwater, Fla., and Donna K. MARTIN and Howard of Oil City; 30 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one sister, Erma "Mike" EDWARDS of Oil City; and five brothers, Ted Smith and Churck Smith, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Don Smith of New Jersey and Jim Smith and Jack Smith, both of Oil City. She was preceded in death by one son, Jack DEMPSEY; one daughter, Pat HOLLENBAUGH; two brothers, Francis Smith and Leo Smith; and six grandchildren. The Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home, 434 W. Main St., Malvern, Ohio, is in charge of arrangments.

Edna Say Greenwood Welton, 91, of Seadrift RR 1, Texas, died at 9 a.m. Satuday, Aug 21, 1999, at her residence. Born No. 23, 1907, in Rockland Township, she was a daughter of Samuel and Ethel ECKELEBERGER HART. Mrs. Welton was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Allegheny, N.Y. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. Mrs. Welton first was married to George Say, who preceded her in death. She next was married Nov. 24, 1937, to George E. Greenwood, who died Dec. 26, 1967. ` She then was married Nov. 12, 1977, to Leroy W. Welton, who died Jan. 26, 1989. Surviving are three children, Paul J. Greenwood of Seadrift, Texas, and Samuel E. Greenwood and Mrs. Joe (Mary Jane) FOSTER, both of Hastings, Neb.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a few great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Ada HOVIS of Oil City. In addition to her parents and three husbands, Mrs. Welton was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Donald and Russell Hart; one sister, Dama JONES; one son, Robert Greenwood; and one grandson, Dennis Greenwood. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Dugger of the Hickory Grove Church of God officiating. Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Francis Blair Tarr, 86, of Las Vegas, Nev., a former resident of Rocky Grove, died June 15, 1999, in Las Vegas.

Mary Jackson Cornelius, 84, of Spearman, Texas, formerly of Oil City, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999. Born Nov. 2, 1914, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Dr. Frank B. and Adele Jackson, who resided at 15 W. First St. She graduated in 1933 from Oil City High School and attended Alleghney College for two years. She transferred to Syracuse University where she graduated with highest honors. She was a member if Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Phi Kappa Delta honor society. Mrs. Cornelius taught Latin for a term at Oil City High School. In 1939, she married Henry Cornelius, who survives. His work took them to various oil regions including South America and finally Texas. Mrs. Cornelius was active in the Republican Party and in the Presbyterian church. She volunteered in her local library and served as a Pink Lady. For several years, she wrote a column, "Bits and Pieces," which was carried in The Derrick as well as in other newspapers. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a a daughter, Adele RUMLEY of Abilene, Texas; a son, Edwin J. Cornelius of Galveston, Texas; five gandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cornelius was preceded in death by a son, Maj. Samuel B. Cornelius, in 1973. Memorials may be made to a library, the Second Presbyterian Church in Oil Cit or to a charity of one's choice.

Alda Bernice Smith, 91, of Highland Oaks, Shippenville, formerly of South Fifth Ave., Clarion, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Born Jan. 19, 1908, in Clarion County, She was a daughter of John Harvey Smith and Ida AnnJane MOORE Smith. Miss Smith was a teacher in the public schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion, the DAR, the Association of University Women, Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and the Women's Club. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Miss Smith was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Wade, John, Floyd and Harry Smith; and seven sisters, Effie Smith, Margaret Smith, Olive EBERLIN, an infant, Bessie JOHNSON, Dora JOHNSON and Emma Blanche Smith. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Kirk Orr officiating. Interment will follow in the New Rehoboth Cemetery in Clarion Township. Memorial donation may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion.
