The Rev. Marvin A. VanCise, 86, a resident of Sugar Creek Station, Franklin RD 3, formerly of Venus, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in Sugar Creek Station. Born Nov. 29, 1912, in Tryonville, he was a son of J. Leon and Caroline VanCise. He was an Army verteran of World War II and served in Formosa. Rev. VanCise, an ordained minister, pastored several churches in Pennsylvania and New York for 45 years. He was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church at Venus. Rev. VanCise first was married to Isabell BROWN, who preceded him in death. He then was married July 30, 1981, to Laura MARSH, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Irene) HETZLER of Polk, Mrs. Larry (Beatrice) POTTS of Pittsford, Mich., and Mrs. Edward (Mary) SHULTZ of Franklin; one son and his wife, Clyde and Tammy VanCise of Augusta, Ga.; 10 stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren; and on step-great-grandchild. He was preeded in dealth by a daughter, Catherine BISHOP, in January 1998 and by a sister, Angie GILSON, in 1995. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Venus Pilgrim Holiness Church with the Rev. Donald C. Myers, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Centerville. The Willis L. Arnold Funeral Home in Townville was in charge of arrangements.

Merle Walter Ortz, 76, of South Bethlehem, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 4, 1999, in the Pennsylvania Memorial Home, Brookville, following a lengthy illness. Born April 21, 1923, in St. Charles, Armstrong County, he was a son of David and Eula McGEE Ortz. Mr. Ortz was a self-employed contractor, doing remodeling, roofing and siding. After his retirement, he built and repaired antique clocks. He attended the Springside Baptist Church. Mr. Ortz was married Aug. 28, 1948, the the former Shirley KUNSELMAN, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, James Ortz of South Bethlehem, Larry Ortz and his wife, Amy, of Fairmount City and Dennis Ortz of New Bethlehem RD 1; two daughters, Carol HANNOLD and Mrs. Randy (Susan) LLOYD, both of Fairmount City; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one brother, Clifford Ortz of Fairmount City; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) MINICH of Fairmount City RR 1; one stepbrother, Paul Ortz of New Middleton, Ohio; on stepsister, Mrs. Walter (Hope) SHUSTER of Templeton RR 2; six half brother, Raymond Ortz and Gary Ortz, both of New Bethlehem RR 2, Kent Ortz of Emlenton RR 3, Terry Ortz of Templeton RR 2, Jerry Ortz of New Bethlehem and Michael Ortz of Ford City; and one half sister, Mrs. Glenn (Joyce) FOSTER of New Bethlehem RR 1. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ortz was preceded in death by his stepmother, Phyllis L. Ortz; two sisters, Florence AUSTIN and LaWaive GERANO; and two brothers, Blair Ortz and Bernard Ortz. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Lyle Westover officiating. Interment will follow in the Kellersburg Cemetery.

Mary Louella Garis, 77, of Wayne Street, Parker, died early Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in Sugar Rest Home, Worthington RD 2, following a short illness. Born April 19, 1922, in Barger Hollow, Clarion County, she was a daughter of Andrew and Anna Elizabeth ZIMMERLY RUMBARGER. Mrs. Garis was employed for some time as custodian at the former Parker Church of God. She was a member of the Park Hill Church of God at West Freedom. Mrs. Garis was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. She was married in Callensburg Aug. 6, 1949, to Donald E. Garris, who survives. They would have marked their 50th wedding anniversary this Friday. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter and her husband, Janice and Larry KLINE of Bruin; and a grandson, Eli A. Kline of Bruin. She also is survived by three brother, Kenneth Rumbarger of Butler, Lloyd Rumberger of Harrisville and Alvin Rumbager of East Brady; a sister, Mrs. Stanley (Leona) GARVER of Kittanning; and a number of nieces and newphews. She was preceded in dealth by a brother, Arby Rumbarger. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Christopher M.Hile Funeral Home, St. Petersburg. Dawson L. Reitz, 74, of Mayport RD 1, Redbank Township, Clarion County, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Born Aug. 4, 1925, in Redbank Township, Clarion County, he was a son of Blair C. and Minnie C. REITZ Reitz. Mr. Reitz was employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Shannondale, Mayport RD 1. Mr. Reitz was a former member of the Hawthorn Lions Club. He was married to Sara J. KEMP, who died Oct. 28, 1991. Surviving are one son and his wife, Lee B. and Nancy Reitz of Mayport RD 1, and one grand-daughter, Leann R. Reitz of Mayport RD 1. He also is survived by a sister, Miss Ina I. Reitz of Pittsburgh. Mildred L. Deeter, 92, formerly of Franklin, a teacher in the Valley Grove School District for 32 years, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in Heather Hill Health Care, New Port Ritchey, Fla. The Derrick, Saturday, August 7, 1999:

Wilbur H. Guynn, 91, of 10 Pinoak Drive, Oil City, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Sugar Creek Station following an extended illness. Born May 31, 1908, in Smithton, Westmoreland County, he was a son of J. Wilbur and Bertha Guynn. Mr. Guynn was a farmer for most of his life. He also worked for nine years as an inspector for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was of the Protestant faith. On March 28, 1964, he married Eva L. GILMORE FRENCH in Franklin, and she survives. He is also survived by several step-children, John and Rose French of Cambridge Springs, Ronald and Rose French of Seneca, James and Susan French of Chicago and Mrs. William (Carolyn) French of Charlotte, N.C.; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Allen WILLIMSON, whom he had raised from the age of 9; a stepson, William French; and a brother, Forrest Guynn. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Reinsel Funeral Home with the Rev. W. Dale Rhome, visitation pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Lois E. Hawk, 56, of Sharon, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1999, at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Mrs. Hawk became ill while visiting in Missouri and died unexpectedly of natural causes. Born in Rimersburg on Nov. 5, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Lucinda E. COLWELL SUMMERVILLE. Mrs. Hawk attended First Methodist Church in Charleston. She was employed at Mercer Junior-Senior High School for a number of years. Mrs. Hawk enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and camping with her husband following his retirement. She was married Dec. 8, 1962, to Roland L. Hawk in Rimersburg, and he survives. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hawk is survived by two sons, Roland L. Hawk Jr. and his wife, Kirsti, of Port Edwards, Wis., and Rodney J. Hawk and his wife, Brenda, of Manheim, Germany; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Rhonda Jane) REESE of Greenville; and three grandchildren, Merrick and Morgan GANDEE of Greenville and Nathan Hawk of Manheim, Germany. Also surviving are three brother, Darl Summerville of New Brighton, Milo Summerville of Coos Bay, Ore., and Donald Summerville Jr. of Rimersburg; three sister, Mrs. Stephen O. (Alice) STITT of Rimersburg RD 2, Mrs. Thomas (Phyllis) HETRICK of Erie and Ellan NEWMAN of Marion, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. Richard N. Kenemuth, 67, of 26 West Ave., died at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Northwest Medical Center in Oil City. Born June 28, 1932, he was a son of Richard W. and Dorothy V. KAPP Kenemuth. On April 5, 1953, he married Eleanore C. BEST, and she survives. He resided in the Oil City area for 30 years, coming here from the Knox area. Mr. Kenemuth worked in the supply division of National Fuel for 42 years, retiring in 1992. He was also self-employed as a heating and air conditioning contractor, was a member of P.I.P.P. oil producers, and was a partner for a number of years in the operation of the Frosty Flavor in Cranberry. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and a former Sunday School teacher. He had his private pilot's license and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and his wife, Michael R. and Gretchen Kenemuth of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter and her husband, Mrs. Russell (Janet) NUTT of Charleston; two sisters, Mrs. Eileen NORTHRUP of Vienna, Ohio, and Mrs. Richard (JoAnn) BERKHOUSE of Bristolville, Ohio; and one brother, David L. Kenemuth and his wife Debby, of Fern. Mr. Kennemuth is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristin and Lauren Kenemuth and Susie and Christopher Nutt, all of Charleston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Corinne KEELY in 1970 and Joyce KAY in 1942. Herbert Dortort of Philadelphia, father of a Clarion resident, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999 In addition to his wife, Ann PATISH Dortort, he is survived by a son and his wife, Dr. Arthur Jeffery and Jacklyn Dortort of Clarion; a daughter, Sharon Beth Dortort of Ventnor, N.J.; two grandchildren, Eli Benjamin and Alicia Jayne; and a sister, Rosalind WILLIS of Wynnewood. Shiva will be observed at Mr. Dortort's residence in Philadelphia. Merle L. Stover, 83, of Seneca RD 1, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness. Bon Feb. 7, 1916, in Rockland, he was a son of Charles L. and Edna M. DETRIE Stover. On June 1, 1944, he married Anna A. McCAULEY, and she survives. He lived most of his life in the Oil City area and graduated from Oil City High School in 1934. Mr. Stover was employed as a mill operator at Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. for 37 years, retiring in June 1978. He was a member of the Fertigs Senior Center and the A.M. Walkers of Cranberry Mall. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, berry picking and hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Albert D. Stover and his wife, Joyce, of Seneca, and Lawrence C. Stover and his friend, Debbie Moore, also of Seneca; two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn M. and Gerald SEEGERS of Keithville, La., and Rhea D. and Harvey HALE, also of Keithville; and four grandchildren, Barbara HARDIN of Keithville, James A. Stover of Dalton, Ga., Christine M. LYCANS of Enid, Okla., and Kelly L. MILLER of Seneca. He is also survived by two brothers, Otis W. Stover of Seneca and Shurl C. Stover of Oil City; 10 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren. Mr. Stover was preceded in death by two grandsons, Ronald K. Stover and John M. Stover; one brother, Clyde Stover; and two sisters, Lucille MAHOOD and Martha BURRIS. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Osenider Funeral Home.
