CHILDREN FROM WASHWELL HOUSE 1889-1890-1891

These children all came from Washwell House Painswick to Marchmont House Belleville, Ont. From the annual report for Marchmont in 1887, Miss Bilbrough (Mrs. Wallace) was mentioning some of the organizations which had brought children that year: "Miss Wemyss' pleasant cottage homes in Painswick, a little country village on the Cotswold hills, Gloucestershire."

This list is courtesy of Sheila Alexander.

All were sent to Mr. Wallace, Marchmont Distrib. Home, Belleville,Canada. Some were accompanied by Gertrude Laver, Matron or a Miss Leech, Matron. Washwell House, Painswick, Gloucester. In the 1881 census, I do not find it as an orphanage - appears (to me) to be just a residence with the Wemyss sisters as residents.
