LAST VOYAGE OF SURAT 1873
Crew contract and accounts for the last voyage of the 'Surat' 1873 which
ended in the ship grounding off the Catlins on New Years Day 1874.
The document was supplied by Ed Heseltine, descendant of and researching
his namesake in the list below.
Since the ship was lost off our southern coast many of these people may
have remained in New Zealand, or have been living here already.

The crew signed on between 20 and 27 September 1873 and the ship was lost
after grounding off the Catlin Coast in Southland,
New Zealand on 1 January 1874.
Attached to the aforementioned crew contract and accounts is a schedule of
births, marriages and deaths occuring during the voyage.

Dec 28 1873 unnamed son to Ephram ELLIS (weaver) and Christiana.

There were no marriages recorded on the voyage.
