MARCHMONT HOME IN BELLEVILLE ONTARIO

The following information was found at the Belleville Public library, taken from index cards of the Home, newspaper clippings and films from the National Archives.

The following picture is from Viv Sadler

The Marchmont Home in Belleville Ontario was run by ELLEN BILBROUGH-WALLACE and the REV. ROBERT WALLACE. The house was located at 193 West Moira Street. BELLEVILLE,Ontario. I was able to copy from the index cards the names and ages of the first boys sent to this "Home"on May 13,1870 as well as several other passenger lists. To the best of my knowledge the home was closed and all their records sent to the "BARNARDO ORGANIZATION" in 1925. I have some ship's lists, names from medical records done here in Canada as well as some done at the homes before boarding the ships.I also have a list of about 100 children telling where they were sent in the area.I did my best to try and copy the names as they are printed on the forms, but no one is perfect especially me.If you do find an ancestor and the name is spelt wrong would you be kind enough to send me the correct spelling. Please remember that this information is NOT 100% correct.I posted it only as a "guide line to aid in your search for your ancestors" as I hope in some small way I have helped atleast one person find an ancestor.
