Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky

I went to Somerset, KY in July (2004) with my aunt Joyce Turner. We went down for only one reason and that was to find out more information on our family history.

My interest in my family's history started with a class I was taking in college, Multicultural Studies. We had to do a final project on our family, where we came from and culturally how that affected our identity.

I was scared to death! Noone in my family knew anything about our nationality, except for the fact we were American. I knew I had to do some serious work.

I started searching internet sites and had some progress. But by the time the end of the semester rolled around I still wasn't any closer to finding anything of significance.

My aunt asked me if I would want to go with her to Somerset, KY and try to track down some more information. I knew that if I didn't find alot more information before we went, we wouldn't find anything. Luckly, I found enough information that when we were down there, we were able to find some more information and find where some of those people were buried.

When me and my aunt where down there, we met one of my Grandpa Turner's cousins, Bernell and his wife Rosene. He was very helpful and gave us even more information, including a old family picture.

My Grandpa had moved here to Indiana and we haven't stayed in touch with his family from KY, so it was very intereting to sit down with Bernell and talk. My Grandpa passed away in November of 2002, so it was fun to listen to Bernell tell stories of when they were growing up.

Since then, over a year later, I am still finding more and more information. Of course, I don't know how valid some of the information is.
